**Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer (Displacement) Location: UK flexible (hybrid role working between home and office) Contract type: Permanent Hours per week: 35 Salary: Up to £35,656 per annum (plus £3,344 Inner London Weighting allowance if applicable)

About this Opportunity**

As Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer you will to join the Policy, Research and Advocacy team and help secure policy change to improve the lives of people at risk of and impacted by displacement in the UK, promoting our advocacy work both internally and externally, making a significant contribution to furthering of our advocacy priorities and delivering our organisational strategy.

This brand new position will play a key role driving forward the British Red Cross’s strategy, developing our thinking and solutions at a time when these issues are being debated both in the UK and around the world.

As the largest independent provider of advice and support for refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK, as well being a member of the world’s largest humanitarian Movement, the British Red Cross is uniquely placed to play a leading role in ensuring that the needs of people who have been impacted by forced displacement are at the heart of that debate.

You will undertake relevant policy development and ensure the lived experiences of the people we support are reflected throughout our policy and advocacy work, designing and delivering creative and impactful advocacy strategies using the most appropriate methods, from quiet diplomacy to engaging supporters in action, working closely with the public affairs and media teams

Supporting strategic stakeholder engagement to allow us to influence as effectively as possible across the UK and where relevant, internationally, identifying key contacts in Government, national and international stakeholders and ally organisations and develop and maintain impactful relationships at the appropriate level, including strategic coalitions.

This role may be for you if…

Along with experience in public / social policy, social work, politics or similar, you will ideally have:

  • Knowledge of the policy landscape impacting people who have been displaced
  • Experience of policy development or advocacy (at a national or local level)
  • Experience of building impactful relationships with external stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Experience of successfully managing a number of different projects at any given time, completing them to a high level of quality
  • Experience of designing and delivering engagement and influencing plans/strategies.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with staff members, at all levels
  • Proven and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills, for a variety of audiences

Meet the team

The role of Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer sits within the communications and advocacy directorate which tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people’s lives – so that both externally and internally people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis.

The department aims to develop and lead on strategic advocacy priorities rooted in our UK work (the refugee and asylum system, health and social care, loneliness and social isolation, crisis response and community resilience), and working closely with our Humanitarian Policy team on our International work.
