THE OPPORTUNITY

The Foundation actively fundraises across five regions: Australia, Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East with in-country teams delivering localized fundraising strategies in support of our global ambitions.

Today 1.1 billion people around the world are needlessly blind. If we do nothing, the next 30 years will see vision loss nearly double. To address this, The Fred Hollows Foundation is embarking on an ambitious global fundraising Campaign, unlocking significant new resources to make a truly catalytic change in the battle against avoidable blindness around the world. The USA, as a center of wealth and leadership in strategic philanthropy, is an integral region for fundraising for the Campaign.

The Fred Hollows Foundation USA is looking for a self-motivated and highly efficient fundraising professional to lead the development of our major giving program on the West Coast, working as part of a national fundraising team and global Campaign team.

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced frontline fundraiser generating real impact, ideally with pervious experience in a global organisation or a desire to transition into a leading INGO. Engaging with major donors to cultivate relationships and to raise significant funds will be your bread and butter. You will be a people person, with a customer focused mindset, and high attention to detail. You will be comfortable working independently in a geographically dispersed team, while also contributing to a cohesive national approach to fundraising. Finally, you will have experience with CRM’s and have a data driven approach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategy: Design and develop a major donor strategy for the West Coast to grow The Foundation’s revenue. Work collaboratively with other fundraisers and the Head of North America to create customized solicitation strategies, matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the prospective donors.
  • Prospect Development: Develop and execute programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the $10,000 level or higher. Cultivate relationships with individual donors personally and meet the donor needs i.e. facilitate program visits, connection to programs, regular updates and reporting. Work with the Head of North America, US philanthropy team, and other key personnel to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward appropriate donors and facilitate peer-to-peer major gift fundraising.
  • Development in a new market: Network and raise awareness of The Foundation in North America as a new market. Design and execute strategies to strengthen engagement with current stakeholders and new prospects while enhancing The Foundation’s brand presence.
  • Giving Circle: Work closely with the Head of North America and the US philanthropy team to support the growth of a giving circle that engages major donors in a meaningful way in The Foundation.
  • Communications: Assist the wider US team to prepare correspondence, briefings, and pitches to support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts across the portfolio.
  • Global Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues on local and global projects and initiatives as appropriate. Liaise with colleagues in other Foundation international markets to share innovations and best practices and, where needed, provide support.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Extensive frontline fundraising experience required.
  • Proven experience in developing strategies for donor retention growth and recapture and proven success with complex requests is required.
  • Demonstrated experience building long term relationships to deliver growth against targets.
  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of five and six figures or more.
  • Experience in managing and tracking high volume portfolios of prospects and donors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Budget management experience within a not-for-profit environment or other relevant environment.
  • Experience briefing and working with C-suite.
