THE POSITION

LAW is currently looking for a Senior Media Advisor to work on an ad hoc basis, and to be reimbursed by projects and deliverables. The Senior Media Advisor will lead and manage the development and implementation of LAWs media strategy, opportunities, approaches, and initiatives to enhance awareness and understanding of LAW’s work.

LAW is an independent, non-profit organisation comprised of human rights lawyers and jurists working in fragile and conflict affected areas in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. We focus on gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence, rule of law and accountability, transformative justice and natural resource exploitation, working to bring justice to those who need it most. We have represented more than 5,000 victims and survivors of human rights violations and in only 2021, provided more than 27,000 individuals with legal information and assistance. LAW’s ground-breaking work has received international media coverage, including in Reuters, the New York Times, the Times of London, the Guardian, Al-Jazeera, France24, Voice of America, Huffington Post and Foreign Policy.

The Senior Media Advisor is an exciting position and will work closely with our dynamic team and in particular with our Executive Director. The person hired work will increase LAW’s engagement with the media, strengthen our connections with relevant persons/fields and ultimately raise the profile and visibility of LAW and its work at the national, regional and international level.

Duration of the assignment:

This is a consultancy position with approximately 2-4 days a month for up to 12 months framework agreement.

Location:

Flexible, the consultant may be based anywhere subject to eligibility and right to work in countrybut should be willing to travel to LAW projects when and if necessary.

Deliverables /Key Results Expected

The Senior Media Advisor is expected to undertake the following:

  • Maximise media outreach through identifying opportunities.
  • Draft press releases, op eds, news releases and any other suitable mediums, such as documentary or video about LAW’s work and issues of importance;
  • Connect to journalists and increase our engagement with the media; focusing on LAWs work and the needs of our clients;
  • Ensure LAW, senior staff and the Executive Director regularly produce published articles and are quoted frequently in high quality newspapers, magazines and online publications for the general public and relevant industry publications;
  • Create a yearly media plan and implement in accordance;
  • Prepare talking points for high level media events for LAW senior staff/Executive Director as necessary.
