Sitting within the Group Communications Team, the Senior Internal Communications Manager will be responsible for multiple internal communication activities, with a specific focus on Lonza’s Business Divisions. The incumbent will develop and execute global, internal communications plans and strategies and provide strategic guidance to senior management and other internal stakeholders for communications across a wide range of channels (intranet, print, email, video and in-person presentations, emerging digital and other technologies). Additionally, the Senior Communications Manager will align targeted divisional communications to Lonza’s Group vision, purpose and strategic priorities and will design communications to engage and motivate employees to support the needs of the business. Close collaboration with other members of the Group Communications Team is key to success.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic support – Global and Executive Internal Communications

  • Advises and supports senior leadership and other internal stakeholders in all matters internal communications (objectives, content, channels, stakeholder-maps, messaging and monitoring)
  • Responsible for the creation, organization and execution of communication plans, leadership communication messages and channels (e.g. newsletters, leadership messages, videos, leadership conferences, townhall events, etc.)
  • Aligns global internal divisional communication activities with the overall Lonza vision, purpose and strategic priorities, as well as the global internal communications processes and planning

Operational support – Communications Tactics

  • Plans, coordinates and distributes internal announcements in close alignment with the Global Head of Internal Communications, thus ensuring an integrated communications approach, including approval process, text editing and recommendations, translation and publication via internal communications channels (email, intranet, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Co-ordinates content development and approvals for internal announcements
  • Manages logistics and content for townhall events, including tools, moderation and Q&A
  • Ensures employees receive timely information on relevant corporate initiatives and programs
  • Ensures relevant external news is communicated internally as appropriate
  • Intelligently adopts new communications channels and strategies to inform and engage divisional employees

Site Communications

  • Develop the existing network of global site communicators, leverage local support and collaboration to act as company ambassadors
  • Act as go-to person for internal communications best practice
  • Support and connect the site communicators into a cohesive and aligned network

Key Requirements

  • A degree in science and/or business communication
  • Work experience in communications – especially internal communication, for an international company or a stock-listed matrix organization

Business Experience And Skills

  • Experience in working with and consulting senior stakeholders
  • Townhall hosting, moderation and related technical skills
  • Able to build and maintain global networks in international business environments or matrix organizations
  • Ability to work within a deadline-driven, high-energy and fast-paced environment
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Experience in safeguarding and enforcing company values and governance requirements

Language and Writing Skills

  • English or German mother tongue with stellar writing and proof reading skills in English. Any other language a plus
  • Mastery of compelling copy editing and story-telling techniques and styles

Digital Affinity

  • Proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft 365 Office applications
  • Experience with content management systems (Intranet), e-mail distribution, social network tools, and digital meeting/interaction platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Mentimeter)

Interpersonal Skills

  • A positive, constructive and can-do approach to work and colleagues
  • Focus on collaboration, with strong teamwork, networking- and communication skills
  • Customer and solution focused, self-driven and able to prioritize
