The Opportunity

The overall role of the Senior Manager – Education in Emergencies (EiE) is to lead on the scale-up and award implementation of the EiE response in Cox’s Bazar. The EiE Manager will report to Education Director with a matrix line to Area Office Director and work in close collaboration with the Education Advisor. The role has line management responsibility and will have delegated budget authority.

The Senior Manager will closely support the national implementing partners, project Managers/ , Manager Curriculum, material development and training, Technical specialist and Coordinators supporting the EiE response, including construction of LC, training of teachers, setting up Community parental support group, support to emergency curriculum (e.g. LWiE, ELM) and PSS/PFA. The Senior Manager will provide day-to-day management, supervision, guidance to the project Manager and Manager Curriculum, material development and training , be responsible for FD7 budgeting and budget monitoring, lead on donor reporting, budgeting, recruitment and procurement as well as new proposal development. The Senior Manager will manage both partnership and direct implementation, representation, Advocacy & Organisational Learning.

The Senior Manager will lead the education sector program and represent SCI in CXB based EiE forums like Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) and Technical Working Group (TWG)

The responsibilities listed below will be further defined with the EiE team in Bangladesh and may change and evolve.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience, preferably in Education project, particularly in budget management and EiE project cycle management, including 3 years in management position
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in managing multiple awards with budget holder responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in designing successful EiE proposals and developing budgets
  • Demonstrated experience in managing major donor projects and understanding of donor compliance issues
  • Previous experience working in an emergency under pressure
  • Previous experience of team management, including recruitment and on-the-job coaching
  • Strong experience in integrated programming
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating EiE programmes in emergency, transition and development contexts
  • Experience in working with and supporting local partners, as well as managing directly implemented programmes.
  • Good knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards or SCI packages in EiE, such as the INEE MS, LWiE, ELM, Life Skills, DRR, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with computerized accounts packages and Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English, with experience in managing multicultural teams
  • Excellent communication skills in cross-cultural contexts, awareness, and sensitivity to gender and diversity
  • Master’s Degree, Preferably in Social Work/Social Sciences/Education/Development Studies or relevant discipline
