I. Information about the position

Name of position: Senior Finance Officer

Contract Period: 12 months with the possibility of extension based on funding availability

Type of position: Full-time

Place of employment: Gaziantep, Turkey (temporarily in Mersin)

Start date: As soon as possible

II. Organizational context

Caritas Czech Republic (CCR) is a non-profit non-governmental organization with field activities in 27 countries (Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa) and an extensive social services program in the Czech Republic assisting more than 100,000 clients. CCR is a member of the international network of Caritas Internationalis and cooperates with a number of international and local partners.

The core of CCR’s activities focuses on development cooperation and longer-term programming. However, the share of humanitarian and nexus interventions is growing, especially in the sectors of shelter, cash and emergency livelihoods, WASH and health.

III. Responsibilities

Accounting data:

  • Entering all financial transactions into the accounting system
  • Making sure that data are in compliance with the physical documentation
  • Checking financial reports from the implementing partner organization and their compliance with scanned documents provided by partners
  • Developing and maintaining reports of the status of financial management activities (i.e. monthly and quarterly reporting)
  • Ensuring that all contractual financial reporting requirements are identified and complied with in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensuring that tax reporting procedures are well documented to facilitate preparation and submission in a timely manner
  • Coordinating inputs and required project reporting to local authorities, based on registration requirements
  • Ensuring proper segregation of duties for payment processes
  • Managing banking relationships and coordinating periodic updates for checking account signers

Payments and physical documentation:

  • Managing the cashboxes and ensuring that the cash counting is done systematically
  • Expense disbursement to field offices
  • Conducting all financial transactions through the bank
  • Taking care of all the inward funds and outwarding the partner advances through the bank
  • Archiving original documents

Other responsibilities:

  • Cooperation with the Country Director and CCR HQ on any financial issues
  • Paying out advances and their settlement and responsibility for country office cashbox
  • Preparing and updating the spending plan for office operation costs
  • Preparing the monthly payroll, ensuring salary payment to national staff
  • Preparing regular reports for the Tax Office (according to relevant laws)

IV. Requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience working with NGOs
  • In-depth knowledge of Turkish accounting law and practices
  • Excellent English and Turkish both written and spoken. Arabic is an advantage.
  • Good organizational skills, orientation on detail, ability to work independently
