Chemonics International, a leading international organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks candidates for the anticipated USAID Liberia Foundational Skills Activity (FSA). The activity will work to increase the percentage of Liberian children accessing primary school and meeting government of Liberia learning standards. The position is based in Monrovia. We are looking for individuals with a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership, along with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party-Technical, in designing and implementing activities focused on increasing equitable access to primary education and improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to the design, technical implementation, and monitoring of project activities related to teaching and learning materials and book supply chains, teacher professional development, on time and age-appropriate enrollment, student assessments, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to sustainably strengthen systems in the education sector that support access to primary education. Includes participating in relevant coordination committees and working groups and establishing close working relationships with the relevant technical staff of USAID in coordination with the Chief of Party.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, plus a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in primary education.
  • In-depth knowledge of education systems in Liberia, based on previous experience working to build foundational literacy and socio-emotional skills for children in primary schools.
  • Expertise in primary school education, including ensuring teaching and learning materials reach end users; teacher training, coaching, support and professional development; accelerated learning programs; and student assessments and placement exams.
  • Record of successful collaboration with and capacity building of the government entities and other stakeholders in the education sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
