Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

SCAN is seeking a Senior Director, State & Electoral Campaigns. In this role, you will lead our Family Engagement Program, support US Programs’ collective impact strategy and rural engagement work in select states, and work closely with the Senior Managing Director, State & Electoral Campaigns to plan and execute SCAN’s state electoral campaign work.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Develop & Execute Strategic Vision for Family Engagement Program (40%)

  • Lead team of family engagement program staff to execute the program
  • Work with your team to create objectives that align with SCAN and Save the Children’s rural advocacy goals.
  • Develop relationships with coalition partners to connect our family engagement program learnings with policy practitioners.
  • Elevate the profile of our parent and caregiver work within the early learning and child hunger funder communities through speaking at partner events and sharing success stories and case studies.
  • Develop annual budgets to support family engagement program.

Partnerships and Collaborations (25%)

  • Participate in strategic sessions with Save the Children’s US Programs to advance rural advocacy goals in specific rural communities.
  • Lead collaborative relationships with other networks advancing shared policy priorities.
  • Elevate SCAN’s role as the political voice for kids with coalition partners and childhood-related networks by promoting SCAN’s role and expertise in securing policy victories.

Strengthen Campaigning Capacity (35%)

  • Support c4 election campaigns through candidate research, compliance, and campaigning. This could include working with creative firms to develop ad campaigns and working with pollsters in support of electoral priorities.
  • Support state legislative campaigns, providing extra campaign execution capacity. This could be a mix of technical assistance to the field, facilitating digital campaigning content needs, and reporting to funders and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and elevate best practices in the field to build strong community action teams that build leadership, engage the community and drive policy wins.
  • Supervise the Lead Associate Campaign Operations for SCAN, supporting the needs of the staff in the states.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Coalition partner relationship development and management experience
  • At least one cycle of electoral campaign experience, with an emphasis on grassroots and paid voter turnout
  • Experience working on state legislative or local campaigns, preferably in rural communities
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Digital campaigning/organizing
  • Experience working with CRMs and other data management systems
  • Experience recruiting, training and managing a diverse base of volunteers
  • Experience in the development of campaign plans with tools such as the Midwest Academy strategy chart

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1- NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Up to $128,000/ year
  • Geo 2-Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Up to $116,000/ year
  • Geo 3-Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Up to $104,000/year

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.
