As part of the Directorate of the Deputy Secretary-General, the Language Resource Centre (LRC) provides expert language and production services to the International Secretariat and the Movement. It leverages language skills, shares knowledge and streamlines operations to ensure the most effective and strategic use of language and production funding and resources. It does this by delivering high quality content and services, promoting best practices in the field of language and applying an innovative, multi-disciplinary approach.

English to Spanish professional freelance translators experienced in the Human Rights field

Skills and experience

The LRC is seeking English into Spanish senior freelance translators to join their pool of external resources. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Spanish as mother tongue and deep knowledge of and fluency in English.
  • Good grammatical and lexical knowledge, as well as cultural and subject knowledge, and documentation and transfer ability in the two languages.
  • Acute sensitivity to nuance, attention to detail and good analytical skills.
  • Understanding of editorial quality standards.
  • Solid experience with state-of-the-art translation technology (CAT Tools, including terminology management).
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines and as a part of a freelance team.

Field/s of specialization

Current affairs and international relations, international human rights law and international humanitarian law, human rights mechanisms, campaigns and human rights education, media, digital content, financial/legal.

Educational background

Degree in Translation, Foreign languages, Journalism, Law or Marketing and Communication (or equivalent).

Assessment information

Please note that the selected candidates will be requested to undergo an unpaid translation test of approximately 500 words.
