JOB OVERVIEW

The role is to follow up and develop business primarily in the UK and also European defence markets. Converting leads into new business. The role holder manages the development of the market within the Aerospace & Defence Laser Business Development segment (mainly related to LDEW). Analyzes, develops, and manages the markets that NKT Photonics are engaged in. Generates and explores the viability of new laser products. Works with Engineering Research and Development to develop new lines of business.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for commercial business development. Maps out important prospects and key players within the Aerospace and Defence sector. Writes proposals and negotiates new contracts with customers. Working closely with Research and Development, analyzes and develops current and potential products and markets for NKT Photonics. Conveys customer ideas around new laser products. Understands customer requirements and applications and follows through to secure Sales. Develops our unique selling proposition for the products for the segment in collaboration with Product Marketing and negotiates contracts. Securing revenue for the sector the position holder is responsible for reporting on technical and financial performance. Gathers funding from international organisations. Has input to the strategic market direction and roadmap development. Updates market data and records. Works with R&D to develop laser products.

KEY INTERACTIONS

Interfaces with the Senior Vice President A&D, R&D, , key customers (current and potential), Marketing and the Sales team from other sectors. Works with the rest of the Business Development team. Engineering.

Supports the Strategic Plan relating to organisational objectives. Provides thought leadership in specialist area. Responsible for implementing Functional goals and KPIs at Department-Level. Responsible for a technical area of expertise. Responsible for ensuring knowledge is maintained within the company.

Keeps peers updated on progress of initiatives. Consults and collaborates internally with colleagues. Responsible for specific priorities and initiatives that may have a people impact. May be responsible for handover of specialist knowledge to colleagues. May be responsible for consultancy-type leadership. May have responsibility for managing internal human resources. May have responsibility for developing future technical specialists. May lead a project team. Manages plans which may including some human resource plans. Advises on policy and monitors policy adherence. Provides updates on progress. Responsible for resolving gaps in talent, knowledge or skills.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

B.Sc. level degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or equivalent Photonics experience. English qualification.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Significant experience of lasers, photonics and related applications in the A&D Sector. At least five years’ experience gathering funding. Significant commercial acumen in the field. Detailed understanding of photonics markets and end-user applications. Methodical and analytical. Comfortable communicating to all levels and to multiple territories. Advanced negotiating skills. Proven effective presentation skills. Demonstrated skills developing partnerships and driving deals to completion. Strong documentation skills. Multi-tasking and attention to detail. English at advanced business level.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

More than ten years of experience working with commercial aspects of the Photonics Industry (R&D, Sales or Marketing) in the A&D Sector. Extensive experience in writing proposals for A&D Primes, MOD and other defence sector organisations. Experience in market development. Experience working with senior stakeholders and executives as well as the ability to collaborate internally and globally. Experienced negotiator.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

Up to 30% annually, globally but with an emphasis on Germany and Denmark.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

UK Citizen and Business English is required. Another European Language is of advantage (preferably German).
