Overview

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Senior Director, CARE-WWF Alliance Communications.

Major Primary Function

The Senior Director, CARE-WWF Alliance Communications will lead the development and execution of short- and long-term communications strategies, in collaboration with the CARE-WWF Alliance internal communications lead, that advance Alliance objectives, support resource mobilization, and link to the broader communications and outreach strategy of both CARE and WWF. The position will work in parallel with others on the Alliance team to ensure specific communications needs are met, while overseeing the integration of branding and key messages for all outreach, engagement, and public facing documents. The role will be the point of contact on all external communications inquiries related to the Alliance team and is recognized within the larger WWF Network and CARE Confederation as the communications expert for the Alliance.

Secondary Function

The Role will shift over time, reducing a percentage of time on the Alliance to be spent on another team within WWF, most likely either the Investment Impact Team or the Government Relations team.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute cohesive communications strategies, alongside the CARE-WWF Alliance internal communications lead, that advances Alliance objectives.
  • Produce external facing content, documents, and stories for projects directly related to the Alliance and advocate for the inclusion of the Alliance in other products and events as fit.
  • Distribute all external facing content, documents, and stories related to the Alliance to external stakeholders and ensure consistent branding and messaging throughout.
  • Maintain an organized and comprehensive list of key external stakeholders and their contacts from both CARE and WWF to distribute content, documents, and stories related to the Alliance.
  • Serve as the liaison between external stakeholders and the CARE-WWF Alliance team, especially when receiving outside inquiries.
  • Advise the Alliance team on communications related to on-going work as well as projects being stage-gated and leads and/or coordinates Alliance communications for priority international advocacy, policy, meetings or events.
  • Proactively generate and support external visibility of the Alliance through external communications and monitoring of trends.
  • Coordinate closely with CARE and WWF teams and leads communications from CARE side of Alliance – both internal and external.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, media, marketing or related subject required. Post-graduate degree in strategic communications, international relation/development, environmental studies, climate or education preferred.
  • At least ten years of professional communications experience. Experience with diverse audiences and geographies preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in conceptualizing, developing, implementing and managing communications strategies that support an entity’s goals, across a wide range of diverse stakeholders and audiences.
  • Experience with mission-oriented, strategic communications or brand marketing is essential.
  • Experience translating scientific or technical information to a lay audience.
  • Experience in communicating with nuance and diplomacy complicated and controversial issues
  • Experience working in an international environment and who understands cultural differences is a plus.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinker who has experience utilizing diverse channels, outlets, and opportunities to craft and deliver messages to different audiences.
  • Anticipates communications conflicts, reputation and brand risks; works to mitigate them
  • Strong commitment to mission, goals and values.
  • Attention to detail, discrete and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to position Alliance issues in such a way as to influence and leverage change well beyond WWF.
