ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will be an exceptional communicator capable of engaging with a diverse range of specialists within an organization. You will actively seek multiple opinions while being able to make independent decisions and influence positive outcomes. Practical experience and technical expertise in digital health, including areas such as mobile medical apps, medical device interoperability, healthcare cybersecurity, digital therapeutics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and novel digital health technology, are essential. Additionally, experience in implementing technology-based solutions in a global health context, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is preferred. You should be tech-savvy with a proven ability to design and implement technology solutions and can communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Digital Health Lead is responsible for establishing The Foundation’s digital health technical advisory service. We have ambitions to develop significant capability in digital health and apply this to further its strategic goals. The Foundation delivers impact via government and eye care service delivery partners across countries in East Asia, South Asia, Pacific, Middle East, and Africa; and invests in the development of eye care services, advocates for and supports the development of more effective eye care policy and supports the establishment of an enabling environment within which effective eye care can be delivered and accessed by those that need it. There are many areas of great potential for the use of technology to support improvements in eye care service delivery. We seek to build its capability to invest strategically in digital health technologies, and support government and implementing partners to engage effectively with technology solutions.

The Foundation intends to engage in a period of exploration and capacity development, whereby we progressively build internal capability and begin to mainstream the uptake and use of digital health tools in new program activities (i.e. if digital tools can cost-effectively be used to enhance program effectiveness, they should be used); and explore areas of potential technical specialisation and areas for particular investment (i.e. offering specialised services or products to partners, or making strategic investments in one or more key domains of digital health to amplify our impact).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Developing a digital health technical function growth and development roadmap that sets out a phased plan for developing The Foundation’s capability and identifying and developing areas of strength / specialisation.
  2. Development of programming guidance and training for programming staff to support them to effectively identify opportunities to include digital health tools in program designs, support partners to navigate the digital health market and make effective decisions about digital products and partners, and support partners to incorporate digital tools.
  3. Provide technical leadership to establish three exploratory projects:
  • An exploration of AI solutions for key eye health challenges that supports FHF management understand investment opportunities and challenges and generates recommendations to support future planning.
  • Exploration of digital tools to support expanded access to primary eye care services in low resource settings, again to support FHF investment decisions; and
  • The development and pilot testing of guidance and training materials to support tertiary and secondary eye care services undertake a digital transformation.

4.Provide technical leadership for high value grant applications.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Proven experience in implementing technology-based solutions, preferably in a global health context.
  • Experience working in an international context (preferably low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) and/or entrepreneurial environment.
  • Tech savvy, with experience in designing and implementing technology solutions with (end)-users including providing capacity building activities.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies for web or mobile application development for data collection, visualization, and analysis.
  • Self-initiator with an entrepreneurial approach.
  • The ability to work in a team and in a diverse work environment, unstructured settings and able to adapt to new environments and challenges.
  • Experience in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Confident and convincing communicator with strong relationship building skills.
  • Service minded towards our partners and stakeholders with a flexible attitude.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Professional experience in the public health sector and ideally eye health.
