Around 600 million people rely on working animals to put food on their tables, transport water, send their children to school and build better futures for themselves and their families.
We work with animal owners, animal health systems, communities, service providers, governments and international organisations to make long-lasting improvements to the lives of animals and their owners.
This role will be the senior focal point for Community Development within the recently established Brooke International Centre of Excellence for animal health and welfare. We are looking for an experienced professional who will be responsible for strategic coordination of all Community Development work taking place across Brooke’s global programmes, ensuring this key element of our work is complementing and enhancing the impact of all other areas.
Both within Brooke and to external audiences the role promotes the importance of quality Community Development that values understanding behaviours and the barriers that exist to achieving lasting change. This role will ensure that the reality of the lives of men and women and their animals remain at the core of our work and decision-making.
Encouraging teams and developing confidence of staff and partners, they will create dialogue for effective implementation of Community Development activities in line with Brooke’s Ways of Working and Global Strategy.
Skills and Experience required
You will have significant practical field experience, be an excellent manager, guide and communicator and be able to draw on the experience of international colleagues to advise on a community development strategy for Brooke.
You will have an understanding of sustainable livelihoods approaches and practical application of gender mainstreaming for gender equality as well as demonstrable experience in Human Behaviour Change approaches
