ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the supervision of the Regional Program Manager, the Seasonal Program Assistant, MENA will provide support research, coordinate meetings and internal communication, draft communications materials, and perform other administrative duties. This position will specifically support Internews’ expanding initiatives in MENA on the area of climate change and environmental journalism. The Seasonal Program Assistant, MENA is an entry-level administrative support position with the MENA team.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the United States will be considered.

This is a part-time, limited-duration position with an anticipated Level of Effort of 50% and expected term of 10 weeks.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Assist the MENA team in developing communications materials about its climate change and environmental journalism focused work in MENA.
  • Conduct research in support of upcoming conferences.
  • Support internal coordination with other Internews teams attending upcoming conferences.
  • Provide copy editing support to research reports.
  • Support logistics coordination, with oversight and support from Regional Program Manager.
  • Update trackers, contact lists, or other administrative documents as requested.
  • Take notes during meetings.
  • As requested, conduct research with guidance from Regional Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated research experience on topics of climate change, environmental journalism, and/or gender.
  • Ability to follow documented processes, written and verbal instructions.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Teams, or willingness to learn.
  • Proven organizational skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating environment; previous experience with tools such as Microsoft Outlook and Teams an asset.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply

  • Familiarity with international development, media and communications, MENA, or climate change and environmental journalism.
  • Proficiency in Arabic (written and spoken) is a plus.
  • Proven ability to operate in a multicultural and remote work environment.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.

The hourly pay range for this position is US $19.23 – $23.08 .
