Shell

Where you fit in

The Shell Chemicals and Products portfolio of assets is transforming into five highly integrated Energy and Chemicals Parks out of which Rheinland is a key player in the European market.

It consists of the two locations South (Wesseling) and North (Godorf) and has started a major transformation program.

The sites will be transformed from a refinery and chemical plant into a Shell Energy and Chemicals Park of the future. It fulfils and supports Shell’s energy transition goals and plays an important role in the energy transition throughout Germany and particular in NRW.

There has never been a more exciting time to work at Shell. Everyone here is contributing to solve one of the biggest challenges facing the world today: bringing the benefits of energy to everyone on the planet, whilst managing the risks of climate change.

Join us and you’ll add your talent and imagination to a business with the power to shape the future – whether by investing in renewables, exploring new ways to store energy, or developing technology that helps the world to use energy more efficiently.

What’s the role?

The Economics and Scheduling (E&S) department is the integrator between the Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland, Trading & Supply and the businesses to optimize the site’s gross margin (GRM) and capture maximum value for Shell’s bottom line. We do so by selecting optimal feedstock for site constraints and market developments, steering operations so that each molecule ends up in the most profitable product and delivering the resulting products to our customers on time and on specification.

Each member of the scheduling team is responsible for a focus area, e.g. Crude Scheduling, Process Unit Scheduling, or Product Scheduling. The focus of the Scheduler we are looking to hire will be within Product Scheduling, where he/she/they is responsible for managing one of the individual product pools (Mogas, Middle Distillates/Jet A1, Chemicals and Residue/specialty products).

Managing a product pool means developing and executing production schedules in line with the optimized monthly supply plan and the site’s operating windows. The scheduler also maintains focus on legal compliance, product quality and hydrocarbon working capital (HCWC). He/she/they has main responsibility for one product pool and will be acting as leave cover for additional product pools. Responsibility for product pools will rotate to enable further learning and development.

Besides daily operational activities, the scheduler supports schedule development for Turnaround preparation and selected Transformation or Growth projects within his/her/their area of responsibility.

The main interfaces for the Scheduler are Rheinland Operations, Rheinland Technology, Product Quality specialists, and Trading, Channel Optimisation and Commercial Operations within the Trading & Supply organisation and/or the integrated businesses (currently Chemicals, LPG, Bitumen and Sulphur).

Develop, optimise and execute an evolving and robust site schedule through:

  • Defining feedstock loading/discharge programs
  • Scheduling and optimizing product blending, meeting products commitment and stocks targets
  • Logistics scheduling i.e. pipeline, jetties, rail/ truck gantries
  • while using inputs from Trading & Supply and Chemicals & Products and respecting the site’s operating windows.
  • Communicate the schedule with Trading and Supply, Chemical, Specialties and site operation interfaces, implement schedules collaboratively, track delivery and make required adjustments.
  • Use the existing GSE Orion scheduling processes and tools and support data integration for Digitalisation initiatives.
  • Work with Economics and Basic Data team to improve models to jointly maximize margins.
  • Coordinate and implement corrective actions to mitigate impact of refinery planned turnarounds and unplanned disruptions
  • Manage stocks and Product Quality while minimizing quality giveaway, stock outs and demurrage costs.

What we need from you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or similar field
  • Working experience in an Operational Business or in Trading & Supply
  • Enthusiasm for learning and problem-solving
  • Strong networking skills; ability to communicate with stakeholders both on site as well as within the wider Shell organization
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English for sharing business requirements, functional requirements, operational ideas and technical knowledge; good verbal communication skills in German or ability to acquire those within the first 12 months
  • Open-mindedness with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.
  • Eager to learn and want to fully understand the business and how operational performance impacts the bottom line, and you want to help the Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland to deliver the solutions to Shell’s Net Carbon Footprint ambitions.
  • Can manage conflicting priorities and deliver results within the required time constraints.
