What’s the role?

A Lead Economist for our Transformation Programme covering both refining but also chemicals units and more and more new sustainable products.

This position reports to the Transformation manager and is part of the Transformation leadership team that works at the interface with other businesses within Shell to develop and drive the asset transformation. This team sits under the General Manager of the Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland.

The Lead Economist is responsible for maximizing the E2E integrated margin of the Transformation Programme and to relentlessly drive the organization to deliver optimized plans to generate maximum cash.

Furthermore, your responsibilities will include:

  • Optimization of the margin as part of the wider supply chain, including integration with the Marketing, Sectors. Trading and Supply, Hydrogen and specific transformation projects to maximize optionality and develop competitive sustainable projects.
  • Performs economic evaluations for hydrocarbons margin improvement proposals, project evaluation and CAPEX proposals.
  • Develop Hydrocarbon Strategy for Turnarounds.

What we need from you?

  • A university degree in business, engineering or similar field (Masters level).
  • minimum of 10 years’ work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of refinery or chemical operations and key optimization levers
  • knowledge of refinery economic optimization and experience with linear planning models are preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with excellent analytical ability and attention to details are essential to manage multiple working interfaces at various levels in the organization and contributes to building team spirit within the team.
  • High degree of commercial acumen and enthusiasm to identify and implement business opportunities.
  • Ability to manage conflicts (internal and external), high persistency required.
  • Stress resistance and ability to manage several topics at the same time, strong commitment to deadlines
  • Curiosity, flexibility and interest in continuously learning new things
  • Ability to communicate in English and German, both verbally and in writing is required.
