Save the Children

We’re searching for someone with a passion to make a difference. In this important role, you will help to maintain and improve Save the Children Australia’s child and adult safeguarding standards across Australia and in the Pacific. As a member of the Enterprise Risk Team, you will ensure that our culture, systems, policies and procedures keep those who come into contact with our organisation safe from harm.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We’re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children’s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there’s a disaster – like an earthquake, drought or conflict – we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this full-time position, you will ideally be based in Melbourne (although other locations will be considered). Working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will strengthen our safeguarding frameworks, monitor the effectiveness of those frameworks, assist with safeguarding incident management and manage safeguarding compliance reporting. You will be part of our Enterprise Risk Team within Group Operations and report to our Head of Safeguarding.

You will make an impact by:

  • Assisting with the periodic review of our safeguarding policies, guidelines and standards to ensure that they are fit for purpose and aligned with the organisational risk appetite.
  • Assisting with the development and review of safeguarding training materials for our staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Participating in our safeguarding community of practice, including providing quality support to Pacific Safeguarding Focal Points and 54 Reasons line managers.
  • Monitoring progress against our safeguarding maturity roadmap and the effectiveness of our safeguarding risk controls.
  • Monitoring all safeguarding incidents to ensure that responses are both appropriate and timely, and assisting with investigations.
  • Coordinating the reporting of safeguarding compliance breaches to institutional donors and relevant government and statutory bodies.

Does this sound like you?

You are an authentic and experienced safeguarding practitioner with a passion for protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of both children and adults. Highly organised and analytical, you have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from a variety of cultural and geographical contexts to strengthen safeguarding outcomes for children and adults.

This role requires:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a child and/or adult safeguarding role and understanding of abuse and risk factors.
  • Strong understanding of child and/or adult safeguarding principles and approaches.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage safeguarding incidents and undertake related investigations.
  • Experience working with distributed and international teams, and Indigenous and CALD communities.
  • Experience in compliance monitoring and/or developing training materials desirable.

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It’s the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Agile work environment including working from home
  • Pet friendly work environment
  • Support for workplace wellness, including access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
