Position: Safeguarding Incident Investigator

Location: Homebased – Majority of investigations are conducted virtually however travel may be required for complex investigations

Position Summary: The Safeguarding Incident Investigator (SII) will be required to undertake safeguarding investigations on behalf of Relief International. RI works from a survivor focused perspective and all safeguarding investigations will be conducted in this way. The SSI will work closely with the Global Safeguarding Lead and with the in country teams during the course of investigations.

Scope of Work: The SSI will be required to undertake safeguarding investigations on an as and when basis. The investigations may be based in any one of the 18 countries in which RI has projects. The investigations will generally be conducted remotely. There may be rare occasions when the complexity of the investigation requires travel, this will be discussed with the SII at the point of planning the investigation. The SSI will be required to attend an initial strategy meeting and produce an investigation plan, outlining the scope of the investigation, the SSI will plan the logistics of the investigation in collaboration with the GSL and the in country team. The SSI will produce detailed records of all investigation interviews, and relevant meetings and ensure these accurately reflect the content. The SSI will work closely with the GSL and ensure that the course of the investigation is understood by the GSL at all times. The SSI will produce timely and detailed records of all investigation interviews, and relevant meetings and ensure these accurately reflect the content. They will attend decision meetings to update on the progress of the investigation and produce a final report. The final report will be accurate, timely and detailed. The SSI will use the RI templates for all documentation and ensure it is stored confidentially.

Consultancy Deliverables: All work to be conducted from a survivor focused perspective

Working closely with the GSL ensuring they are fully briefed

All data to be stored according to GDP requirements

Work to be undertake collaboratively with RI staff

Ensuring relevant liability insurance is held and production of document as proof

Ensuring relevant references and background checks are provided and documents provided as proof

Tasks and Deliverables: Attendance at initial Strategy Meeting

Production of Investigation Plan

Interview all relevant witnesses

Production of verbatim interview notes

Production of final report

Attendance at key decision making meetings

Qualifications & requirements:

This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field or Bachelors degree with commensurate work experience;
  • Minimum of five years professional experience in leading complex safeguarding investigations
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be detail oriented ;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills required;
  • Strong English skills, speaking, reading, writing are required;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Ability to think critically and creatively;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues.
