About WBCSD’s TIP

Formed in 2005, the Tire Industry Project (TIP) is a voluntary, CEO-driven initiative with a mission to anticipate, understand, and address global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues relevant to the tire industry and its value chain. TIP acts by commissioning independent research of the highest standards, collaborating on sectoral solutions, and engaging with external stakeholders. TIP currently brings together 10 leading tire companies (Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin, Pirelli, Sumitomo, Toyo and Yokohama) that represent more than 60% of the world’s tire manufacturing capacity, and is co-chaired by Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Michelin.

Position summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Research Intern to support various research-oriented activities of the TIP, including coordinating Working Groups (WGs) of the TIP Research Pillar.

The Research Intern will be part of the TIP team and mainly support the Research Director, and the Research Lead, also work closely with working groups from TIP member companies, consultants, and the other Pillars of TIP. You will be assisting in various research pillar tasks assigned to you.

Responsibilities and duties

• Support the implementation of the Research pillar work plan:
• 1) Planning and execution of Research pillar WGs, calls and meetings, including preparing contents, sharing notes and action points, scheduling, etc.
• 2) Support robust project management
• 3) Support with research
• Support the preparations of the Research Co-Chairs, Facilitation Team meetings and other TIP meetings, including the development of the contents and the presentations.
• Work with the TIP team to maintain and reinforce relationships with stakeholders (incl. TIP member companies, consultants that is crucial for the Research pillar work).
• Support the Research Pillar sensing activities and the planning, logistics and administration of the Research Pillar.
• Data Collection and Analysis: assist in data collection, organization, and analysis using relevant tools and software. Collaborate with team members to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Collaboration: collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to the overall success of research projects.
• Learning and Development: actively engage in learning opportunities provided by the organization, attend workshops, meetings, communications, etc.

Qualifications and skills

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in international relations, sustainability, environmental science, chemistry, engineering or related disciplines.
• Passion for research and a desire to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and organizational
• Considerable experience in project management.
• Proficiency in using research tools, software (Microsoft Office Suite), and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain organized records.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential; skills in Japanese and/or Korean are an advantage.
• Team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and multi-projects environment and to identify obstacles and to find quick solutions and with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
• Strong interpersonal skills (being able to understand others, kind, patient, ability to manage conflicts and building lasting relationships, respectful in the way working with others, formally or informally) and service orientated.
