The ABA Center for Human Rights is seeking a contract with an expert in human rights and anti-corruption advocacy in Central America to provide legal assistance in support of human rights defenders and anti-corruption advocates. The expert should have a demonstrated understanding of the threats facing anti-corruption advocates in Central America, experience conducting advocacy and complex legal analysis related to corruption and human rights abuses and anti-corruption or accountability measures for human rights abuses and corruption. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing evidence of corruption and human rights abuses in Northern Central America for submission to relevant stakeholders and authorities.
  • Devising and helping carry out advocacy strategies related to the submission of evidence to national or international mechanisms.
  • Producing written memos or reports on the findings of independent trial monitoring and/or investigations.
  • Developing strategies and protocols for sharing and preserving evidence of corruption.
  • Analyzing cases of criminalization against anti-corruption advocates for submission of information to stakeholders and accountability mechanisms, or for the support of legal defense teams.
  • Drafting other materials to support anti-corruption advocates, including amicus briefs, petitions, advocacy letters, or opinion editorials.
  • Supporting trainings for human rights and anti-corruption organizations on topics like international justice and/or sanctions mechanisms, international and national legal standards related to corruption crimes, and evidence gathering and analysis.
