Overview of Position

  • Our client Disengagement, Disassociation, Reintegration and Reconciliation (DDRR) programme is a key component of our client peacebuilding and stabilization portfolio that aims to increase Somalia’s resilience to destabilizing conditions and build national capacity towards sustained peace. The programme aims to contribute to peace and improved security in Somalia through supporting the Federal Government of Somalia’s National Programme on the Treatment and Handling of Disengaged Combatants and Youth at Risk (National Programme).
  • The Defector Rehabilitation Programme (DRP), Ministry of Internal Security in Jubaland State and our client implementing partner, are seeking to recruit an experienced clinical Nurse to provide healthcare services to beneficiaries at the Female Rehabilitation Centre in Kismayo.
  • Under the overall supervision of the DDRR Field Coordinator and direct supervision of the Female Centre Manager; and, with technical oversight from relevant technical leads in DDRR and our client Migration Health Division (MHD), the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for managing one Female Rehabilitation Centre medical clinic that provides preventive, curative and promotive health services to female beneficiaries and their children. Overall contract performance management is jointly monitored and evaluated by relevant DRP, Ministry of Internal Security staff and the International Organization for Migration. International Organization for Migration will undertake contracting obligations and remuneration. This position is ONLY open to qualified female candidates.

Role Objectives

  • This is a full-time position, based in the Rehabilitation Centre in Kismayo. The specific tasks include:
  • Provide Assistance with health screening of beneficiaries, and their children, upon their entry into programme, as well as on a regular basis during their participation in the rehabilitation and reintegration phases of the program.
  • Regularly assess beneficiaries for gender-based violence, including conflict related sexual violence and refer to case management team for counselling and support.
  • Provide Assistance and support beneficiaries referred for specialized medical treatment including hospitalized patients and routine medical treatment and referrals of complicated cases.
  • Support with establish patient care goals; teach and counsel patients and reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills; answers questions.
  • Order and keep track of previously approved medical supplies and drugs, checking expiration dates, and requesting timely replenishment to avoid stock outs;
  • Conduct regular health and hygiene awareness sessions for beneficiaries at the centre; educate beneficiaries on chronic conditions and preventative as well as maintenance care.
  • Assist project manager, case management and gender team to ensure beneficiaries receive appropriate support.
  • Always maintain a safe and clean working environment; Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations always.
  • Report the key epidemiological data every week in a timely manner; Collate, analyse, and generate relevant data and submit reports as required, including contributing to weekly and quarterly reports.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Further Information

  • Should hold valid practice license from the relevant national and state authority.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experiences in clinical practice in Somalia and/or somali population.
  • Experience in working in public health in Somalia and/or Somali population.
  • Experience in working with the Ministry of Health, and asset
  • Experience in working in protection and asset.
