Vulnerable children in the UK need your help

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you’ll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It’s the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children’s lives.

A bit about the role

At Gilmerton Road we provide a thriving short breaks and outreach support to children and young people aged 5-18 with intellectual disabilities and that may present behaviours that challenge. We are committed to providing high quality care and support in an ever changing environment, while also growing and developing our services and meeting the needs of the local authorities we work in partnership with.

As the Registered Manager, you’ll be leading the team while working alongside the Residential Workers, Team Leader’s and Business Support Officer’s. You’ll also be working closely with the Care Inspectorate, CAMHS, our Behaviour Support Consultant and the wider cluster of services we provide in Edinburgh and the Lothians and will have the support of the Children’s Services Manager and other Registered Managers to do so.

Collaborating with professionals from different fields will ensure the holistic development of the children and young people we work with. This includes maintaining communication and coordination with local authorities, as well as other professionals who play a role in their care and support. Working together will help create a comprehensive support system that enables the children and young people to achieve their full potential.

As a leader in this role, you’ll inspire and motivate your team to deliver meaningful support that changes children’s lives. You’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining the culture across the service that seeks to support staff to provide high quality care.

Some key responsibilities of the Registered Manager role are;

  • Provide direct care and support to children in all aspects of their support needs.
  • Work towards giving children a positive experience of being away from home.
  • Help children in all aspects of their daily lives and supporting their health and happiness.

Let’s talk about you

You’ll need to be proactive and positive with a solution focused approach taking on this role.

Whilst a management qualification would be great, we are open to those with experience in a management role within a residential/social care setting.

Below outlines what will help make you a great candidate if you are considering applying;

  • Experience in Management of a large team working towards an outcome.
  • Previous experience of working with young people who have had adverse life experience and need support with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
