The Regional Logistics Coordinator is responsible for supporting the regional logistics systems, setup and capacity building within the Eastern Africa and Yemen Region.

Generic responsibilities

  1. Implement NRC’s logistical systems and procedures in countries assigned
  2. Ensure adherence to Logistics Handbook, other NRC policies and donor requirements
  3. Provide anti-corruption, transparency and cost efficiency focus in all processes (e.g. in procurement, vehicle management, asset management)
  4. Ensure safe and efficient transport of staff and materials/goods
  5. Training and development of logistical team
  6. Review of reports and follow up with country offices for deviation
  7. Prepare and submit periodic reports and plans as required
  8. Ensure proper filing of all logistics documents in all offices
  9. Train and support project staff in procurement matters
  10. Conduct spot checks
  11. Conduct compliance checks

Specific responsibilities

  1. Ensure all regional procurements for region are conducted in a timely and effective manner as per NRC procurement regulations
  2. Setup and Implement NRC’s logistical systems and procedures in the Horn of Africa, South Sudan and Yemen region
  3. Ensure that all countries implement the Procurement SOPs and Logistics handbook
  4. Support the Logistics/Procurement teams in the region ensuring that procurement and logistics support in country is effective
  5. Participate in emergency logistics setups in the region ensuring NRC systems and processes are setup at an earlier stage
  6. Provide gap filling for senior logistics positions that become vacant within the region until such time the positions are filled
  7. Travel within the region providing support where and whenever required
  8. Conduct compliance checks in Regional and Country offices
  9. Follow with countries on implementation of audit recommendations
  10. Build capacity of logistics staff in the region.

Professional competencies

  • Experience from working as a Logistics Coordinator/Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Degree in Supply Chain management, Business Admin, Commerce,
  • Membership to professional body i.e. CIPS
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Skills in training and remote management support
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Good knowledge of logistics reporting systems
  • Good hands on experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Good knowledge of NRC Procurement Procedures and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with strong team player skills
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel extensively within the region
  • Experience with start-up, exit or similar
  • Excellent communication skills
