Regional Advocacy and Policy Adviser – Middle East Office – Open to candidates from MENA region

What we are looking for

Experience with humanitarian advocacy and policy work and the production of high-standard written materials . Additionally, experience and background in research, development, human rights, foreign policy or similar field. Knowledge and experience from any countries in the region is desired.

Candidates should be able to work with a a wide range of actors and stakeholders including government and regional entities.

What you will do

The purpose of the Regional Policy and Advocacy Adviser is to provide policy and advocacy support to the Middle East And North Africa Regional Office (MENA) and Country Offices in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

In this position you will:

• Contribute to and lead on policy and advocacy deliverables for the Middle East and North Africa region.
• Develop and implement region-and or country specific advocacy and policy activities and outputs including research, analysis, and evidence to support advocacy strategies in the region.
• Ensure linkages between advocacy and programmes to develop products with an NRC-evidence base.
• Ensure internal communication and alignment with relevant NRC units and departments with the view of developing consistent policy positions.
• Support Country Office teams with policy and advocacy guidance and the development of products as well as capacity building the Country Office teams.
• Responsible for monitoring and analysis of humanitarian situations, emerging trends, and displacement patterns as relevant.
• Be accountable for drafting policy and advocacy products such as briefing notes, research, and position papers, talking points, key messages, press releases, social media outputs and ad-hoc reports as relevant.
• Represent NRC as relevant in meetings with key stakeholders and identify opportunities to advocate NRC’s position in meetings with policymakers and carry out briefings, including in different capitals.

What you will bring

• Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience within the humanitarian, development, human rights, foreign policy, or similar field.
• Experience with humanitarian advocacy and the production of high-standard written materials (i.e. reports, briefing notes, position papers, talking points and key messages.
• Experience in carrying out research relevant for humanitarian advocacy and policy work.
• Experience with relevant thematic areas (displacement, durable solutions, protection, humanitarian issues), including through conducting policy work.
• Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts in the Middle East and North Africa region.
• Ability to work with a wide range of actors, including government and regional entities.
• Excellent remote work management skills.
• Representation and public speaking experience are an advantage.
• Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal

What we offer

• Duty station: Amman for Jordanian nationals under national contracts or remote work from home countries where candidates have legal right to work, for Iraqi, Palestinian, Tunisian, Libyan, Syrian, Lebanese and Yemeni nationals under national contracts.
• Contract: 12 months.
• Travel: Approximately 40-50% within the region.
• Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s national salary scales, with accompanying terms and conditions/
