Recreation Coordinator, Full-Time- Ottawa Transition Care Unit

The Recreation Coordinator assesses, develops and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational, therapeutic programs consistent with the needs, interests and abilities of persons in care. Respects and promotes the dignity and individuality of each person in care by recognizing them as individuals with unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social needs.

Education, Requirements, Skills

• Experience in conducting assessments and building programs to reflect patient needs;
• Experience in a social services or long term care setting an asset
• Experience and skills in facilitating activation programs
• Demonstrated experience planning programs for patients with dementia and various physical limitations
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
• Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills;
• Excellent communication in English (verbal and in writing);
• Strong computer skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others and as part of an inter-disciplinary team;
• Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others;
• Creative, energetic, approachable, and highly motivated;
• Genuine interest in working with seniors;
• Current First Aid/CPR C certification;
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
• Complete other tasks as requested
• Attends team meetings as requested

Qualifications

Education

• Diploma in Recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or equivalent
• Gentle persuasion or Montessori preferred
• CPR/ First Aid an asset

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of recreational coordinator/activation experience
