Reader: Sustainable and Inclusive Fashion and Textiles Design

University of the Arts London

University of the Arts London invites applications from student-centred research-led scholar-practitioners. We have an opportunity for an academic/practitioner to play a leading role in shaping the research in the School of Design and Technology at London College of Fashion and contribute to teaching and learning excellence.

The School of Design and Technology’s portfolio is based on the philosophy Merged Metiérs underlining that sustainability, digital technologies (wearable tech, smart textiles and digital manufacturing) and Better Lives values are transforming the current fashion practice and industry. This has led to expand the field of innovation in fashion design by incorporating sustainability, craft technology, creative arts, entrepreneurship and digital engineering expanding the designers’ toolbox beyond the borders of fashion. You will lead on the development of collaborative links with national and international partners in academia and industry and on the development of external funding applications. Your duties will also include the supervision and mentoring of doctoral research degree students as appropriate.

In addition to undertaking your own research practice, you will have teaching and curriculum development responsibilities into the MA design courses. You will be responsible for embedding inclusive design/climate change actions in the BA curriculum as well as encouraging and supporting staff to develop their research and KE practice in this area. You will work closely with the Research Centre for Sustainable Fashion and the Social Design Institute.
