VACANCY: Protection Field Officer 1 (Sinjar)

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Protection Field Officer 1 (Sinjar)

Level: B2**

Duty Station: Iraq – Mosul Sub-Delegation – Sinuni base (Sinjar)**

Reports to: Field Delegate and Field Deputy CoProt**

Duration of Contract: 1 year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal based on needs and performance).**

Objective:

The Protection Field Officer 1 will support the implementation of ICRC activities in Sinjar area:

§ 70% of the work will be support to the Protection department: restablishment of family links, search for missing persons, protection of civilian populations and forensic activities;

§ 30% will be for the support to assistance programmes: economic support, health, mental health, weapon contamination, operational communication, water and sanitation…

Key Responsibilities:

§ Implement protection activities under the supervision of the Field Delegate and Field Deputy Protection Coordinator. That may cover (not exclusively): field tracing for re-establishment of family contact; translation for colleagues who do not speak the local languages; support to the Forensic team; active contribution to the activities related to the Sinjar Accompaniment Project (support to families of missing persons); presence during operational communication sessions with weapon bearers or civilian interlocutors.

§ Support non-PROT departments according to needs, at the request of the concerned Heads of Departments, and under the supervision of the Field DEL and Field DepCoProt. For instance: assessing venues for group activities, making appointments, going to the field to facilitate contacts with beneficiaries and interlocutors, translating meetings.

§ Act as a focal point for the management of the Sinuni base: planning of visits, good functioning of the field office, reporting any malfunction to ADMIN and Logistics department.

§ Contribute to analyses of the security, socioeconomic, cultural and political environment relevant to the ICRC; share relevant information with team members, and reports any change in the situation.

§ Contribute to the design and implementation of projects in the area of responsibility.

§ Help to make internal and external meetings meaningful (through preparation, participation, translation if necessary, reporting and follow-up).

§ Develop and maintain contacts with the municipal/regional authorities, local/regional branches of the National Red Crescent Society, the local population, suppliers, etc.

§ Prepare, participate in and report on field assignments.

§ Foster a conducive environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamic) among team members.

Education and Professional Experience required:

§ ​University degree or relevant professional experience.

§ Excellent command of English, Arabic and Kurdish. Local languages a plus (Kumanji, Sorani, Badini…).

§ Computer literacy.

§ 3-5 years’ previous professional experiences, for instance in the field of social/political/economic science or similar.

§ Previous humanitarian experience a plus.
