PROTECTION DATA ANALYST

Purpose of the post

Based in the delegation, the Protection Data Analyst – under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator and supported by the Regional Protection Data Analyst – will develop data analytic projects, conduct research on internal and external data, and build data analytic products to support Protection activities in the delegation and understand protection concerns. This position enables for a stronger data analytic support to the delegation and enhances the data analytic capacity in the region. It provides support for best practices with data collection (quantitative and qualitative), data processing, and data analysis

Main responsibilities

S/he:

  • Supports protection teams, using data analytics to inform the operations.
  • Builds reports, dashboards, and visualizations combining quantitative and qualitative methods and produce visual and reader-friendly analytics to provide an in-depth understanding about the Protection concerns and activities in the Delegation.
  • Performs ad-hoc research on internally collected data.
  • Explores potential new usages of different analytical techniques.
  • Contributes to the mapping and analysis of available external resources.
  • Contributes to the sharing of ideas and methods across the Delegation protection team and region.
  • Takes part in multidisciplinary projects with other data teams across the ICRC.
  • Supports the Protection team with analysis of priorities, advising on data collection methods, and contributing to data workflow management.
  • Supports ongoing and new data analytic projects in the delegation.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and up-to date documentation of ongoing and completed projects.
  • Contributes in the response to emergencies.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Geography, Computer Sciences, or a related field.
  • Master’s or doctoral degree is an asset (either completed or underway).
  • Typically, 3 to 5 years overall professional experience in data analytics and/or research.
  • Experience with at least one of the following analytic tools:
    • Advanced Excel.
    • Python, R, SQL, or other programming languages.
    • BI tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Excellent command of Spanish and English.
  • Storytelling ability through visually clear reports and dashboards, both dynamic and static.

Desire skills:

  • Strong motivation for humanitarian work.
  • Good presentation skills and experience training others.
  • Experience with automated collection and storage of data retrieved through web APIs.
  • Understanding of data collection in the field and work with personal and social data.
  • Interest in automated text analysis, data wrangling, and visualizations.
  • Work or volunteering experience with the ICRC, IFRC, or National Society is an asset.
