Protection Assistant – Bohol (Filipino Nationals Only)

Will lead and support the targeted Typhoon Oddette affected communities who are in critical need in terms of health, protection, mental and psychosocial support as well as those who requires official documents to avail most need humanitarian assistance. The planned activities will be implemented in close coordination with the consortium coordinator and consortium partners.

Key activities in your role will include

• Objective 1: Improve local capacity and awareness of psychosocial support services and referrals

  • Mobilization and training of community-based PSS support groups
  • Protection and Safe Programming Orientation
  • Establishment/ reactivation of referral pathways for protection cases on GBV and Child Protection
  • Training on Psychological First Aid
  • Collaboration with other protection actors to support the LGUs in rolling-out protection training
  • Conduct of beneficiary feedback monitoring survey
  • Establish referral pathways of mental/psychosocial well-being issues that may need more specialized care
  • Supervise/monitor the trained groups that will identify the typhoon affected persons who need psychosocial support and conduct group sessions in small groups at the community level. The identification of people with mental health and psychosocial support needs will be done using the Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ) by WHO.

• Objective 2: Identification and make functional the safe spaces

  • In consultation with the WASH engineers, identify and install install parent-child-friendly spaces (PCFS) around evacuation centers. These spaces will create a safe environment for children to access free and structured play, recreation, leisure, and learning activities; and a venue to identify vulnerable and at-risk children to facilitate their referral for immediate response.
  • Consultations and coordination with the local social welfare and development officer, barangay officials and affected communities and vulnerable groups more particularly children and their parents will be ensured during the process of implementation e.g., location, number of children, materials etc.
  • The PA will assist the project in assessing spaces suitable for the lay-out of PCFS to consider other aspects of design, e.g., play spaces for creative, imaginative, and physical activities; presence toilets and handwashing facilities, design that will reduce risk for COVID-19 transmission. Minimum health standard protocols, health checks will be observed during implementation, monitoring and referral of at-risk children

• Objective 3: Coordination, collaboration and synergies

  • Ensure planned activities are closely coordinated and consulted with local health service providers, community leaders and clusters
  • Coordinate and ensure AAH’s sectoral interventions/activities are complementing each other and providing assistance to the most vulnerable IDPs and returnees
  • Ensure tools and approaches are standardized across the consortium related to psychosocial activities
  • In coordination and consultation with the HOP , ensure proper coordination and information sharing with LGUs, stakeholders and consortium members and implementation and approaches and adopted to local context.

• Objective 4: Ensure proper monitoring and reporting of activities

  • Report to the Head of Project issues and challenges faced in the field and implementing the activities and context related issues affecting the planned activities
  • Update HOP on the progress and achievement on daily and weekly
  • Ensuring the quality of the data collected from the field
  • Make suggestions/recommendations to HOP on readjusting the program based on the results and the context, as needed
  • Monitor the community support groups activities the field
  • Participate in assessment, collecting and entering data and their analysis, including timely archiving of SoVs

• Objective 5: Safety and Security

  • Adhere to the Mission Reporting system and submit the reports requested on-time
  • Respect the Security rules of Action Against Hunger and coordinate with the Security Officer / Base Logistician for any security issues relating to work
  • Report any security or other incidents in the field that may interrupt project activities directly to line manager, Base Security Officer / Base Logistics Officer.

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Behavioural Sciences Social work, or related field
• Knowledge on child development, psycho-social programming, primary health, community health outreach programs, Protection Minimum Standards in Emergencies
• COVID RCCE and risk transmission awareness
• Familiarity with the local culture, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on psycho-social matters.
• Knowledge in Cluster Coordination an advantage
• Experience of at least 1 year in a similar position
• Excellent English and Filipino speaking and writing skills required. Knowledge of local dialect is an advantage.
• Windows Good knowledge of Office package, Open Data Kit, and WHO process screening software
