OVERVIEW

The job holder provides technical assistance and management oversight to the Work; No Child’s Business Project in Karamoja Sub-region, Eastern Region. Work; No Child’s Business Project is aimed at eliminating child labour as well as protecting and fulfilling children rights in Karamoja Sub-region. In close collaboration and partnership with communities and CBOs, schools and local government authorities, the project will promote children’s rights and business principles through a comprehensive child-rights-based and gender sensitive gender to bring change in sectors with a high incidence of child labour in the intervention areas especially mining and informal and/ or domestic work. The project will use four integrated pathways:- 1) Children are empowered and have improved access to quality formal education, bridge or transitional schooling and youth employment within a supportive family and community environment. 2) Governments have enforced relevant child-rights based laws and have implemented policies on child labour, education, youth economic empowerment and social security. 3) The private sector takes full responsibility for preventing and addressing child labour. 4) The EU, Dutch government and international/multilateral organisations act in support of the elimination of child labour and fulfil their obligation to protect by setting and reinforcing due diligence policies and laws.

The job holder will provide overall programmatic and operational lead and management including; planning, implementation, partnership and contract management, compliance to SC and donor regulations, human resource management and development and capacity enhancement, monitoring/ evaluation, budget and financial management and reporting both internally (within SCI) and externally (for/with partners and donors). The technical programme management and achievement of a gender-transformative communities. The person is accountable for overall coordination and oversight delivery of Work; No Child’s Business Project in the sub-region.

To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree in an appropriate social and development field such as Social Science, Sociology, Education, Development Studies, Community Development or Rural Development, International Development.
  • At least 5 years of accrued working experience in program implementation with a minimum of 5 years in a management level position with an international NGO, implementing child protection and education
  • Experience in strategic thinking and planning skills, be able to set priorities, prepare manageable plans and to evaluate progress.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses. Previous experience of project management
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in gender activism
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
