The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking for a Project Manager, CASCADE to support the implementation of CASCADE project activities at GAIN Mozambique office. This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis, subject to availability of funding. This position will be based in Nacala, Nampula Province, Mozambique.

About GAIN

GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation that was launched in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

The Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE) is a five-year project that aims at improving food security and contribute to reduction of malnutrition among women of reproductive age (15-49) and children under five years in Mozambique. The Project Manager will provide strategic orientation while leading the overall CASCADE project components, in addition to leading project related technical assistance and implementation of activities as defined in the project proposal and work plan to meet set goals.

Reporting to the External Engagement Manager, the Project Manager will monitor and manage the progress of CASCADE Project in Mozambique and oversee the operational management of Nacala office.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading in providing oversight, technical direction, and implementation of strategies and interventions as desired under the project as per the GAIN Project Management Guidelines (PMG).
  • Defining project scope, activities, and objectives in line with the GAIN business plans, programme frameworks, and organizational strategic priorities.
  • Monitoring the context dynamics and adapt the project activities and implementation modalities accordingly.
  • Relationship building and stakeholder management working relations with diverse stakeholders – INGOs, bilateral agencies, government departments, business, and non-profit partners.
  • Line managing several direct reports, including supporting work plan development and performance management.
  • Under the supervision of the External Engagement Manager, monitor the systems and business processes for finance, HR, contracts, facilities, and IT that are integrated and aligned with the Maputo office and the organization.
  • Work with international finance to ensure that accurate budgets and forecasting are drawn up for all activities, and that costs are kept within budget.

About You

The ideal candidate should have proven project management experience in an environment requiring collaboration and liaising with government stakeholders, relevant industries, private business sectors and international organizations. You should have strong technical knowledge of public health and nutrition, including micronutrient deficiency control.

The post-holder should have strong coordination/liaison, negotiation and communication skills and able to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments. You should have the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure and independently with frequent deadlines and must be willing to travel in country. The post-holder should have skills in high-level report writing, people management, and presentation skills including experience of presenting to a wide range of audiences. A Bachelors’ Degree in Project management, business administration, nutrition, food science, health, international development would be an advantage. Experience in delivering integrated health and / or nutrition programming is highly desirable.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from USD 27,967 – USD 39,333 per annum, depending on experience.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
