Created in 2016 and financed by UK Official Development Assistance, the UK-PHRST is the primary arm of Her Majesty’s Government to provide and coordinate the UK’s public health response to outbreaks in low- and middle-income countries. The UK-PHRST is a unique collaboration between Public Health England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In addition to outbreak response, the UK-PHRST also conducts outbreak-related research and capacity building for outbreak response.

We are looking to recruit an outstanding individual to join the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST) as the Project Business Co-ordinator.

The Project Business Co-ordinator position will ensure that that day-to-day financial management and business coordination are carried out effectively and efficiently. The successful applicant will play a vital role in providing financial and business coordination support to a wide range of areas within the core management team. Excellent attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills are essential. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who must be flexible, have significant business and project management expertise; and experience setting, managing and reporting budgets.

Job description

This role works across HR, Finance, Business Management and Procurement, and is critical to ensuring that the UK-PHRST can meet the requirements of corporate policies around financial management, governance, recruitment, workforce and people management, tendering and management of contracts and business planning. You must be able to process a large amount of complex information quickly and efficiently, and work collaboratively with colleagues in other teams and directorates.

The post holder will be working directly to the UK-PHRST Programme manager with a high degree of autonomy and will have highly developed communication skills. The ability to liaise effectively and develop excellent working relationships with a wide range of individuals, partners and organisations is essential. You will need great attention to detail and a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite. A flexible and proactive approach to your work is vital.

Responsibilities

  • Leading on the UK-PHRST forecasting for planned programme activity and systematic verification of spend to ensure value for money staff
  • Provide financial support to all projects across the programme that involve UKHSA staff
  • Work closely with colleagues at LSHTM to ensure strong and consistent financial monitoring and management across the programme
  • Lead on maintenance of all finance guidance, audits, standard operating procedures and communication with team to ensure timely and accurate finance reporting and spend. Including with LSHTM on integrated reporting.
  • Work closely with the Global Public Health Project Business Coordinator and Business Manager to ensure intradepartmental alignment
  • Undertake day to day human resource related tasks such as preparation of workforce returns, liaising with HR corporate team & supporting the completion of recruitment and other HR related paperwork for the UK-PHRST team
  • Line management of junior staff as required
