Here at Action For Humanity we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Programmes Manager to join our Head Office team based in Salford, Greater Manchester. You will join us on a full-time basis as part of an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. In return, you will receive a competitive salary, ranging between £30k – £35k per annum, depending on experience.

Action For Humanity is a UK based charity providing humanitarian assistance and implementing long term projects in the Middle East. In terms of geographical outreach, the organisation is expanding to other regions, i.e. Asia and Africa, hence making it an exciting time to join. The organisation runs a range of programmes across several thematic sectors including healthcare, education, food security, livelihoods, WASH and orphan and family support.

This role is based in Action For Humanity’s headquarters in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The Programmes Manager is a member of the Programmes team and is responsible for efficient delivery of Action For Humanity’s portfolio of projects and programmes. The successful candidate will ensure effective and efficient programmatic and financial delivery of projects, as well as development and institutionalisation of best programme management practices. Responsibilities include contract renewals and renegotiations, including handling communication with the funding authorities and commissioning bodies. The Programmes Manager will also contribute and develop other areas of the programmes department, including programme design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL). The successful candidate will also work closely with other departments e.g. donor care, marketing and communications for campaign management, ensuring that seasonal campaigns run smoothly with interdepartmental cohesion.

The ideal candidate will have excellent management skills, fluent written and spoken English, and experience in a similar role. They will also be passionate about the humanitarian sector and demonstrate a genuine commitment to the organisation’s growth and success.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Programmes Manager:

  • · Lead on developing new and enhancing existing policies, procedures, and systems for the implementation of best practice and management across the organisation
  • · Accountable for Action For Humanity’s compliance with all funding contract/grant and agreement conditions regulations and guidance of our funders
  • · Leading on donor reporting and donor quality assurance
  • · Leading on development and the successful implementation of Project Cycle Management in line with the Programmes handbook. Take initiative in improving and strengthening of the handbook in terms of good practice including effective, efficient, and impactful programmes delivery
  • · Maintaining and developing strong relationships between internal stakeholders
  • · Contributing to building of new programmes and projects
  • · Contribute to the strategic management of the organisation
  • · Provide full support to the Head of Programmes in day-to-day activities whilst collaborating with and supporting our country offices, including head of programmes, programme managers, MEAL Department etc. in the field offices.
  • · Ensure policies, procedures and systems are in place and appropriate to manage our grants and contracts efficiently and effectively. **
  • · Accountable for contracts compliance and ensuring Action For Humanity delivers against all agreed provisions and guidance**
  • · Overall responsible for programmatic and financial delivery of Action For Humanity key contract and grants, and their internal and external (including donor) reporting **
  • · Facilitate all aspects of project management for assigned proposal efforts, including initial research, review/analysis, template creation, task management, kick-off/status calls, scheduling, input review/consolidation and delivery
  • · Monitoring of project progress through field trips, close communication with project staff, monitoring of expenditure, communication with donors and problem solving.
  • · Provide support to monitoring and evaluation teams, assisting in capacity building where appropriate.
  • · Supporting countries in developing submitting high quality reports (narrative and financial).
  • · Lead on and regularly carry out internal audit to ensure all documentation compliance and implementation of corrective measures if needed **
  • · Facilitate cross teams planning and coordination to ensure organisational synergy, projects success especially during seasonal campaigns e.g. Ramadan, winter relief etc. **
  • · Represent Action For Humanity at meetings as appropriate, including donor meetings.
  • · Develop and reach out to potential funding opportunities
  • · Work closely with the Institutional funding unit
  • · Work collaboratively ensuring the team meets its objectives in MEL, countries strategic management, programme development and fundraising.
  • · Support other departments in development of appeals.
  • · Support field visits and potential fundraisers to visit projects in the field

What we’re looking for in our Programmes Manager:

  • · Educated to Postgraduate degree level in International development, or related field
  • · Excellent and proven track record of large-scale grants management.
  • · Experience and excellent contracts performance management skills and experience
  • · Experience and proven track record of programme and financial donor reporting
  • · Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of programme planning and monitoring tools including Logical Frameworks.
  • · Experience of collaboratively working with remote teams
  • · Have demonstrated analytical skills, be forward thinking and able to see the bigger picture
  • · Be an innovative problem solver and solution oriented
  • · Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • · Ability to work constructively and collaboratively with others to achieve success
  • · Have a hands on approach and be a team player
  • · Language – fluent in English verbal and written. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable
  • · Experience of a minimum of 5 years working in the charity sector
