Christian Aid

Christian Aid Ireland is recruiting a Programme Development and Funding Officer (€40,891 per annum).

This is a new role and a great opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team, supporting us to develop our programme funding strategy, develop new funding relationships and grow our institutional funding. You will have experience in one or more areas of international development, humanitarian and peacebuilding work, with a strong preference for candidates with experience of working with a range of institutional donors. Experience working with ECHO is a plus. You will work closely with the Programme Development and Funding Manager and the Christian Aid Ireland Programme Team, but will also build relationships with other internal departments and external stakeholders, therefore excellent written and spoken communication skills are essential. As a member of a small team you will have strong analytical skills and will be expected to use your judgement and take initiatives that support departmental outcomes. You will ideally be based in Ireland but we will consider exceptional candidates based in the UK. We cannot offer contracts to anyone based permanently outside Ireland or the UK.

You will be a core part of Christian Aid Ireland (CAI)’s humanitarian team and will support the Humanitarian Manager to deliver and grow CAI’s humanitarian portfolio, with a particular focus on securing and managing ECHO funding. You will provide support to all aspects of CAI’s humanitarian programme portfolio, from proposal development to supporting implementation, monitoring and evaluation. You will also provide support for security, accountability, emergency preparedness, advocacy, gender and inclusion, and other technical areas as required and will provide programme, administrative and financial support to humanitarian projects and programmes as necessary, in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant – Programmes. You will liaise regularly with country programmes implementing CAI humanitarian projects and programmes for monitoring and support. You will be expected to travel to country programmes to monitor projects, support proposal development and provide technical support as required, and will be required to respond to surge needs during the early stages of emergency responses.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in international development and/or humanitarian work, preferably including overseas experience.
  • Experience working with ECHO funding, preferably including relationship building at field and/or HQ level.
  • Experience working with other institutional donors.
  • Demonstrated excellent proposal and report writing skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, including cross cultural relationships.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, to use discretion and show good judgement.
  • High level of administrative competence, including the ability to convene and manage effective meetings.
  • Experience of working in a high pressured and changeable working environment and working to tight deadlines with multiple and complex priorities. Demonstrable adaptability and creativity.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles and international standards including SPHERE, the Red Cross Code of Conduct for NGO’s working in emergencies, Core Humanitarian Standard.

Desirable

  • Professional experience living and working in a disaster affected country.
  • Knowledge of global development issues, including policy and advocacy topics and familiarity with emergency problems relevant to country or region.
  • Experience in supporting security management initiatives.
  • Technical experience or qualification in a relevant humanitarian discipline (e.g., Food Security, Shelter, WaSH, cash programming, etc.).
  • Experience in capacity building of country programme and partner organisation staff.
  • Written or spoken French or Spanish.
