Know our team

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International (NI) is seeking applications for a Program Officer, GTS Food Fortification to be based in Ottawa, Canada.

About you

You are someone with a university degree with a focus on nutrition, foods and nutrition and/or health sciences (Master’s degree preferred). You have experience working with NGOs and /or international organizations specific experience with public health and/or nutrition programs preferred) and a minimum 4 years of experience in a similar function. You have excellent writing, editing, presentation and communication skills and knowledge of international development and/or public health issues.

Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.

About the role

The Program Officer will contribute to the design, delivery, and review of Nutrition International’s food fortification plans and programs, ensuring their quality, in addition to supporting development and dissemination of relevant fortification evidence/knowledge products. This role also assists GTS’ efforts of strengthening and intensifying NI’s fortification portfolio among both external stakeholders and internal staff/units.

In this role you will be:

  • Work closely with the Senior Technical Advisor (STA) and regional and country offices to plan and deliver technical advisory inputs, and/or quality assurance of program and research planning, implementation, monitoring, assessment, and reporting in the subject area as required.
  • Liaise with staff across units/teams/business models to better position NI and bring additional visibility to the organization in the food fortification space.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external communications, knowledge, and technical products to profile work and guide NI’s food fortification program.
  • Working closely with the STA and regional and country offices, the Program Officer GTS will support evidence generation and thought leadership to encourage innovation and application of innovative approaches in NI country programs in the subject area.
  • Official travel is not expected to exceed 10 days per year and will only be authorized as the need arises.
