Action Against Hunger-USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, which provides humanitarian relief in over 40 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Cambodia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Haiti, Somalia and Zambia. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $75 million in programs, and approximately 1,500 staff based in the various country offices, US Office in New York City and Washington DC and Operational Centre in Nairobi. Additional growth is anticipated.

Summary of Position

The Technical Director of Programs will be responsible for leading the technical team and interventions, ensuring relevance, quality and increasing impact. He/she will be asked to lead and oversee the multi-sectoral project/programs department of Action Against Hunger’s Haiti Country Office and provide input on new and innovative projects and technical processes.

Purpose

Through your position as Program Director, you will be responsible for coordinating the various projects currently in place, anticipating and prospecting for our possible future positioning in Haiti.

Key activities in your role will include:

  • Align relevance and technical efficiency of ongoing projects by defining the technical directions to be followed and ensuring their evolution/adaptation as necessary
  • Lead in the development of future project proposals by proposing the most appropriate technical options according to the objectives and contextual specificities;
  • Oversee the production of quality project reports by ensuring their relevance and technical consistency that are submitted timely;
  • Take lead and ensure continuous technical reinforcement of the technical teams, both at the Coordination level and at the Bases;
  • Ensure the technical quality of reporting of activities internally and to donors;
  • Identify, support, evaluate and technically reinforce the country office’s collaborators and more specifically the HoDs and technical advisors for the WaSH, Nutrition and SAME sectors;
  • Contribute to the development of the mission with a dedicated support to technical innovation and quality of programs /projects

Requirements

  • Advanced Degree in any field related to Management, Development, Health, Economy, Agronomy, Engineering, or any field related to food security and livelihoods or engineering degree in water and sanitation techniques.
  • 5 to7 years’ experience in similar technical coordination or highly technical project management positions.
  • Strong knowledge of economic development, value chain and market strengthening approaches, including remittance-based interventions.
  • Significant experience in food security and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the WASH and nutrition sector.
  • Mastery of project cycle management and Log frame.
  • Extensive international work experience.
  • Good experience in development contexts and monitoring multi-year projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of integrated approach in emergency or development interventions.
  • Knowledge of development approaches, value chain and market strengthening.
  • Good computer skills demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Fluency in French and English.
  • Good experience in team management
  • Knowledge of donor submission processes (UNICEF, ECHO, EUROPEAID, USAID, OCHA…)
