ECPAT International

ECPAT International (ECPAT) is a global network of civil society organisations working collectively for the elimination of all forms of child sexual exploitation. It seeks to encourage the world community to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights free and secure from all forms of sexual exploitation. The ECPAT network currently consists of 122 member organisations in 104 countries. The ECPAT Secretariat coordinates the global work of ECPAT and is based in Bangkok, Thailand.

POSITION BACKGROUND

ECPAT has been leading the global initiative to provide awareness, tools and support to the travel and tourism industry to keep children safe. The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism has currently over 390 member companies and is hosted by ECPAT International in its secretariat in Bangkok. The initiative is part of a broader ECPAT programme on child protection in travel and tourism. ECPAT has been cooperating also with other industries to end online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Sexual exploitation of children has continued to evolve rapidly in recent years and the manifestations of this crime have multiplied. Hence, a variety of industries have emerged as important stakeholders in the global effort to end the sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Further and enhanced private sector action is needed to boost and sustain child protection from all forms of sexual exploitation, with particular responsibilities in industries such as information and communication technologies, the financial sector as well as others.

JOB PURPOSE

ECPAT strives to engage the private sector at international, national and local levels, in cooperation with its members. ECPAT is looking for an experienced private sector engagement expert to lead work on and with the world of business, while strategically connecting and addressing avenues through which children fall victims of sexual exploitation and abuse.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development

  1. Develop and contribute to the implementation of ECPAT’s overall private sector strategy to address sexual exploitation of children, both in travel and tourism and across other industry sectors.
  2. Cooperate with and guide ECPAT’s Heads of Programmes (travel and tourism, online, boys, research) in engaging the private sector, including through collection of good practice examples from business and monitoring trends.
  3. Undertake direct collaborations with business and mobilize stakeholders while ensuring the alignment of the private sector engagement strategy with ECPAT programmes, advocacy and regional strategies.

Programme and Project Management

  1. Develop and promote initiatives, mechanism and tools for business, enabling them to implement child protection measures as part of their business models, operations and activities, including in supply chains.
  2. Develop and implement a communication strategy to raise visibility of the private sector engagement programme, including through recognition of business partners (eg. awards, annual meetings) and social media, in coordination with ECPAT Communications Team.
  3. Oversee and support customer relationships management (CRM) system for The Code including membership services and business relationship management. Propose measures to improve the standards and quality of The Code mechanism.
  4. Lead or contribute to the implementation of specific projects and activities*.*

Advocacy and external engagement

  1. In collaboration with ECPAT departments, expand network of relevant business partners.
  2. Develop a practical approach to business engagement strategy to mainstream child protection in online and offline contexts on the private sector agendas.
  3. Identify opportunities and represent ECPAT International, including The Code, in relevant global, regional and national level events involving business.

Member Engagement and Coordination

  1. In collaboration with the Network Development team, support ECPAT members in designing their private sector engagement strategies relevant to their country context; this includes the implementation of the six criteria of The Code.
  2. Promote best practices on private sector engagement among ECPAT members.
  3. Actively engage, support and mobilize ECPAT network to engage with the private sector.

Fundraising

  1. Review and oversee management of The Code membership fees.
  2. Open doors and generate opportunities for increased private sector funding.

Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in relevant field and at least five years’ relevant professional experience within the child rights and private sector engagement;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child sexual exploitation and abuse and business and human rights issues;
  • Experience of working on global level and across multicultural teams;
  • Communication: excellent writing, speaking and presentation skills;
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM, WordPress website and database management;
  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal), knowledge of other network languages (French/ Spanish/ Russian/Arabic) is a major plus.

Additional Information

  • As a child-focused organisation, ECPAT has a strong commitment to child safeguarding and rigorous procedures. The successful candidate will be required to provide three referees and a criminal record from country of residence and country of origin (as applicable).
  • Duty station: the duty station for this position is flexible and may be in our Secretariat office in Bangkok or home based in candidate’s country under certain conditions. Contractual structure and benefit package may be defined based on final duty station.
