PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY

MMC is seeking a Private Foundation Fundraising Advisor to identify and actively engage and build opportunities with relevant private foundations (particularly in the United States and Europe) with the view to expand and diversify MMC’s donor base.

This consultancy involves scoping and identification of private foundations relevant to MMC’s work globally and/or within specific regions, but more substantially, involves actively facilitating introductions with targeted private foundations and establishing MMC with these foundations to build partnerships and attract funding.

TASKS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CONSULTANT

  • Mapping (20%)

    • Identify and analyse potential private foundation donors whose priorities align with MMC’s work
    • Provide a comprehensive mapping of relevant private foundations, including contact information, areas of focus, and grant-making history
  • Engagement (70%)

    • Initiate introductions to relevant private foundations and lay the groundwork for concrete funding partnerships
    • Provide advice on engagement strategies with relevant private foundations with the aim of cultivating lasting partnerships
    • Support MMC to develop key messaging to effectively communicate their value to relevant private foundations
  • Capacity strengthening (10%)

    • Provide guidance on aligning funding proposals with the priorities and requirements of relevant private foundation donors
    • Conduct a training session/workshop with the senior management team to enhance fundraising skills and knowledge on private foundations

DELIVERABLES

This consultancy assignment should culminate in:

  • A mapping document outlining private foundations of interest, including contact information, areas of alignment and grant-making history
  • At least 10 introductions to private foundations, including the development of a tailored strategic engagement plan to build long terms relationships for each foundation
  • A workshop to enhance fundraising skills and knowledge on private foundations within the organisation
  • Other tasks as agreed upon.

DURATION, TIMELINE AND PAYMENT

This consultancy is expected to take 40 days over the time period between May – July 2024. The consultancy is homebased, with the United States as a preferred location due to proximity to relevant foundations.

Initial payment, 20% upon signature of the contract.

Final payment, 80% after the successful completion of all deliverables.

REPORTING ARRANGEMENT

The consultant will be overseen by the MMC Director.

EXPECTED PROFILE OF THE CONSULTANT

  • Over 10 years’ experience working for private foundations, not-for-profit management, fundraising, lobbying or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of private foundation fundraising in the North American and European contexts
  • Strong pre-existing personal networks among private foundations, with the ability to independently facilitate introductions for MMC
  • Demonstrated expertise and track record in successful fundraising, as well as in building strong and long-term partnerships with private foundations for similar organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and writing skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Contextual knowledge of migration, particularly mixed migration, as well as organisations focused on research would be an added benefit

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Candidates should submit an application including:

  • Documents requested in the Request for Proposal (RFP), section III, clause A
  • Cover Letter
  • CV including references of previous relevant experience (max. 4 pages)
  • Technical proposal (max 3 pages) including: proposed approach and workplan
  • Financial proposal: budget (in CHF), which shall cover all costs over the course of the consultancy. The budget should be broken down as described below:

A. Consultancy fees – daily and total

B. Technical costs – phones, etc.

C. Travel costs, if applicable

D. Miscellaneous (e.g. insurance, printing, etc. – please specify in the financial proposal)

EVALUATION OF BIDS

The evaluation process consists of three stages: 1) Administrative, 2) Technical and 3) Financial. This process is explained in the Request for Proposal (RFP), section III.

Only those shortlisted will be contacted for an interview with the panel to ensure their understanding of the consultancy services.
