We are looking for the Pressure Systems Engineer SME to join our Central Engineering Team for Europe. The job holder will be a Subject Matter Expert in this discipline, an experienced and knowledgeable pressure systems and mechanical integrity engineer. The Engineer will be responsible for supporting and resolving technical issues elevated from the operating facility, consequently the Engineer is required to have extensive technical and operations experience in high-temperature service equipment. This includes reformers, reactors, boilers, pressure vessels and other refractory lined equipment.

The Engineer will be required to provide direct support to the local Pressure Systems & Mechanical Integrity Inspection team which includes specialist mechanical integrity support for troubleshooting, inspection, technical evaluations, equipment assessments & repair, fitness for service evaluations and design engineering reviews.

The position will collaborate with Operational Excellence, Materials Technology, Design Engineering department and 3rd party engineering firms to address fixed equipment engineering challenges.

As The Pressure Systems Engineer SME You Will

  • Provide technical expertise on pressure equipment and refractory systems by developing instructions and completing evaluations/assessments to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment.
  • Participate as a Subject Matter Expert in risk-based inspection (RBI) programs, and in developing the mechanical integrity program for equipment. Advise on effective inspection techniques and methods, metallurgical challenges/limitations and deterioration/degradation mechanisms specific to technology and process service.
  • Provide technical support for development, execution, and assessment of complex inspection activities. This includes creating inspection scope packages and when necessary, traveling to the field to support execution.
  • Perform fitness-for-service assessments to industry standard (e.g. API 579) for deteriorated, damaged or repaired equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance or instruction or approval for modification, repair and inspection of refractory lined equipment and systems.
  • Perform, review or approve engineering design calculations and/or work with the AP Engineering Organization and 3rd party engineering contractors to implement design changes to pressure vessels and piping.
  • Provide design engineering for Pressure System equipment including development of technical specification, review of mechanical strength calculation and fabrication drawing.

You Will Have

  • Mechanical Engineering graduate with >10 years of relevant experience in industries such as power, chemical, steel, oil and gas.
  • Experience in asset/mechanical integrity of pressure equipment and design, monitoring and repair of Refractory equipment/systems.
  • Working knowledge of Pressure Vessel & Piping (e.g. ASME, EN, GB and ANSI) codes for design, inspection, and repair.
  • An in-depth knowledge of deterioration and damage mechanisms impacting high-temperature equipment is required.
  • Experience in design and an in depth understanding of the engineering principles on which the various codes of construction are based in order to make professional assessments. Practical experience in fabrication is also required, particularly when formulating or assessing repair procedures.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively throughout at all levels.
  • Practical industrial field experience with strong leadership and communications skills.
  • Proficient in English, other languages will be a plus.
