Job Purpose

To contribute effectively to the management of the pastoral care provided within the Supported Studies (SEND) provision. You will utilise an effective range of tailored support strategies to enable all students to engage positively and safely in learning, and enjoy an exceptional college experience.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The role of the Pastoral Co-Ordinator calls for a dedicated professional with the necessary experience, skills and personal qualities to establish immediate rapport with students and the tutor/management team.

The Post Holder Will Be Expected To Have

Proven experience of supporting young people with SEND.

Commitment to improving opportunities for young people with SEND in preparation for adulthood – especially in the areas of independence, health and well-being and work opportunities.

Ability to communicate with, inspire and engage students to achieve their full potential.

Ability to work successfully with students who demonstrate challenging behaviours or are experiencing heightened anxiety, through the implementation of effective strategies.

Ability to take responsibility and work with autonomy – within set boundaries and expectations.

Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

An ability to respect sensitive and confidential work in accordance with GDPR.

Knowledge, understanding and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Organised with an ability to work towards challenging targets and has effective time management skills.

Good IT skills.

5 A*-C GCSEs to include maths and English.

Displays responsible, co-operative and flexible attitude.

Relevant teaching qualification (AET/DET) or willingness to work towards.

Relevant training in SEND

Willingness to undertake training in relevant areas.

Experience of writing risk assessments and knowledge of protocols regarding working with and administering medication is desirable.

Roles And Responsibilities

Uphold and promote positive behaviour for learning by attending to student concerns/issues swiftly and effectively.

Collaborate with the wider pastoral/management team to develop and implement effective and tailored support strategies for individual students.

Liaise with student support functions, external agencies and parents to help ensure that students make good or better progress.

Be available for students throughout the day, especially during unstructured times including break, lunch and morning/afternoon taxi duty. This may include running or coordinating extra curricula activities.

Write and maintain accurate records relating to the health, wellbeing and safety of students – according to their specific needs and in line with departmental systems and college protocols. This includes setting up and updating individual risk assessments, care plans and associated daily administration of medication forms, safety plans and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).

Provide occasional cover for the delivery or support of consistently good or better sessions, incorporating an effective range of learning activities, to ensure outstanding learning outcomes.

Comply with all aspects of the SEND Reforms including the implementation and monitoring of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and contribute to the EHCP annual review process.

Assist with personal care, aid mobility and administer medication, in line with individual needs and college protocols.

Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and all college policies including health and safety, equality and diversity, PREVENT and Safeguarding.

Undertake such other duties, as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any more senior manager.
