UN Volunteers

Under the overall supervision of the UNV Regional Manager and immediate supervision of UNV Programme Analyst, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Support Partnerships and Mobilization to UNV (75%):

•Support the UNV Regional Office for Europe & CIS with outreach activities with UN entities in assigned countries mainly Poland, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia for demand generation and information on UNV modalities.

•Act upon and follow-up on volunteer mobilization forecasting for online and onsite volunteer assignments with UN partner agencies, particularly in the timely submission of Descriptions of Assignment.

•Under guidance of the supervisor, participate in relevant partner meetings and planning meetings to identify opportunities for volunteerism and volunteer placement.

•Provide regular updates to the UNV Regional Office with regards to possible potential opportunities for UN Volunteer solutions integrations.

•Support in collecting data information and documentation and drafting routine correspondence and reports.

•In close coordination with the Communications staff in the Regional Office, support in the preparation, dissemination and presentation of country-specific promotional information on the mandate and work of UNV with relevant development partners and the media.

•Participate in activities in collaboration with other UN agencies, for annual, national and UN-recognized international celebrations, including the International Volunteer Day (IVD).

•Support outreach campaigns aiming at attracting talents as per corporate talent acquisition strategy and updating and maintaining a network of local sources in coordination with ROECIS and the Volunteer Services Centre (VSC).

•Monitor the contractual status of all serving UN Volunteers, assist in securing funding authorization for extension and flag to UNV VSC follow-up actions; provide the required administrative, operations and programme support, where appropriate.

•Maintain up to date contact records of all serving UN Volunteers, including their recognized dependents.

•Liaise with relevant UN Host Entities to facilitate government clearances, entry visas and resident permits of incoming UN Volunteers and their recognized dependents.

•Ensure that UN Volunteers are adequately briefed and debriefed and extend personal support and guidance to UN Volunteers serving in the country.

•Work closely with the Field Security Officer and provide support to the UN Designated Official to ensure a detailed understanding among UN Volunteers on all security-related issues.

•Undertake tasks for the local support of the UN Volunteers and recognized dependents in the country including in the cases of medical evacuation, security evacuations or the death of a UN Volunteer.

•Assist VSC in ensuring that all conditions are met before the payment of final entitlements to UN Volunteers at the end of their assignment.

•Conduct onboarding session with Talent Acquisition team to the newly recruited UN Volunteers in Poland.

•Conduct regular visit to the hosting entities and follow up with the deployment requests.

•Support TA activities in order to find national talents in Poland.

•Perform other tasks within the scope of the assignment. Assist UNIC Warsaw with 25% of work time: This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Warsaw. The UNIC is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) run by the Department of Global Communications, and UNIC Warsaw is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Poland. The incumbent is under the partial supervision of the UNIC Warsaw Digital Communications Assistant. Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

•Assists in developing UN campaigns promoted on social media, websites and other digital UNIC Warsaw platforms.

•Assists in translating UN documents mainly from English into Polish and writing draft media texts in Polish and English using particularly social media.

•Assist in monitoring Polish media and social media for UN-related coverage and trends.

•Assists with events, conferences and meetings organized by UNIC Warsaw such as UN Day and others.

•Assists in the monitoring and reporting of activities (i.e. CIMS, the reporting tool of the Department of Global Communications), and evaluating activities.

•Assists with general administrative duties. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

•Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

•Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.

•Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.

•Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

•Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

•Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
