Summary

Seeking paralegal to provide support to attorneys and legal representatives in order to serve survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking with divorce, custody, child support, protection orders, humanitarian-based immigration relief, and other legal issues.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare affidavits, legal correspondence, and other documents for attorneys and authorized representatives.
  • Organize and maintain documents in a paper and electronic filing system.
  • Meet with clients, attorneys, authorized representatives, and other professionals to talk about case details.
  • Help prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls from clients.
  • Attend state court and immigration proceedings with attorney or authorized representative as needed.
  • Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
  • Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data.
  • Assist in scheduling and organizing meeting and telephone conferences between clients and attorneys or authorized representatives.
  • Attend continuing education classes/seminars.
  • Support development of Legal Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Two-year associate’s degree or four-year bachelor’s degree, preferably in Paralegal Studies or in related field. Previous experience working with clients and office administration preferred.   • Ability to work with a diverse client population and cultural backgrounds.
  • Understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking issues.
  • Ability to problem solve with clients.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and database programs.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Responsible for providing own transportation to meet with clients and other community providers.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards of the organization and in accordance with HIPPA standards.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team oriented environment.
  • Commitment to the mission of the WCA.
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required.

The employee will be in a normal office environment while performing the duties of this job and will be required to sit, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. In addition, employee will be required to drive to other locations to conduct company business.
