The project

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. The ACLED team conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED material is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support the work of practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

ACLED is recruiting a full-time Outreach & Development Officer to assist with ACLED’s outreach and development activities, including engagement with users, partners, donors, and other stakeholders. This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service. This position reports to the Associate Coordinator of Outreach & Development. The Outreach & Development Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

ACLED Network & Partner Outreach

  1. Support the execution of ACLED’s partnership strategy, in collaboration with the Global Data Collection team, including establishing and maintaining positive relationships with strategic partners and ACLED Network members.
  2. Serve as a liaison between ACLED and both prospective and established strategic partners and Network members, including
    • Attending meetings with prospective strategic partners and Network members.
    • Coordinating note-taking during the meetings
    • Sharing the outcomes of the meetings by logging them in Salesforce and passing them on to other relevant team members.
  3. Support the AC-O&D in responding to questions from partners and Network members relating to their agreements with ACLED, data access, technical issues, and the coordination of responses to inquiries regarding ACLED methodology/coverage, etc.
  4. Facilitate and support the partner and Network members’ access to ACLED data.
  5. Support the AC-O&D with data entry, management, and maintenance of information on donors, partners, ACLED Network members, and users using Salesforce and other tools, in coordination with the Programs and Sales teams, as necessary.
  6. Support the production of the monthly partner report.
  7. Support the drafting and sharing of strategic partnership agreements (MOUs) with prospective strategic partners and confirm membership with potential Network members.
  8. Support the development of promotional materials to be shared with potential strategic partners and ACLED Network members, in collaboration with the Communications and Analysis teams.

Fundraising & Development

  1. Support execution of ACLED’s external engagement strategy, in collaboration with the Communications team.
  2. Support the execution of ACLED’s fundraising and development strategy through engagement with strategic partners and ACLED Network members, in collaboration with the Programs team.
  3. Support proposal development by providing storytelling around ACLED’s impact and sharing information regarding relevant use cases.
  4. Research funding opportunities identified by strategic partners and Network members.
  5. Coordinate with partners and Network members around program-specific activities.
  6. Improve systems related to managing ACLED’s contact data stored on Salesforce.
  7. Attend conferences and other events to broaden ACLED’s network and share information about ACLED’s work with relevant audiences.
  8. Engage in other ad hoc support tasks and occasional administrative and coordination tasks related to outreach and development.

Impact Monitoring & Communication

  1. Support the AC-O&D and Programs team in developing systems, processes, and tools to understand and effectively communicate the impact of ACLED’s programs and activities.
  2. Contribute to program reporting, monitoring and evaluation, learning efforts, and project design by analyzing and sharing information that was collected through engagement with users, partners, and other external stakeholders.
  3. Engage with ACLED’s users, partners, donors, and other external stakeholders to communicate ACLED’s organizational impact.

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management and scheduling skills.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Fluency in other languages desired.
  • 1-2 years of experience in stakeholder engagement and/or donor/partner relationship management at a non-profit organization (preferably focused on peacebuilding, conflict, human rights, and/or global affairs)
  • Ability to work remotely with limited supervision.
  • Good judgment and extremely high attention to detail.
  • Experience with Salesforce (strongly preferred)
  • Comfortable travelling and attending conferences.
