Operations Director – EOI

About the Project – Australia Assists is DFAT’s flagship humanitarian technical assistance program. The managing contractor is responsible for deploying technical expertise to areas affected or prone to be affected by disasters, conflicts and humanitarian emergencies. The creation and maintenance of a humanitarian roster, alongside training and capacity strengthening of partner governments are key activities within the program.

About the Role – The Operations Director oversees operations for Australia Assists on a global scale. The Operations Director supervises a team of operations staff in Brisbane, Australia, as well as managing operations staff remotely in where needed.

Key Responsibilities

Direct communication with DFAT and Contractor Representative regarding the ongoing development and management of systems and processes
Strategic and day-to-day management for all logistical and administrative aspects of deployments and staff
Ensure Australia Assists meets all necessary DFAT requirements to operate, ensuring compliance with policies and standards for the program, safeguarding, WHS, deployee and program security, and safe travel
Obtain and manage staff visas, work permits and related documentation
Manage the advertising for, recruitment of, onboarding, and personal and professional development of all deployees, roster members and operational staff
Ensure adequate insurance coverage of property, assets and vehicles is in place.
Maintain the personal safety and security of deployees and staff
Manage and maintain systems and staff relating to procurement, contract management, finance, administration, and IT
Manage procurement of all goods and services, including drafting and reviewing contracts
Review and provide feedback to implementation teams and assure quality in contract development and procurement
Manage program risk, and plan for risk mitigation through developing, managing, monitoring and updating of the risk management framework, and managing the register and reporting system
Manage and plan the deployment and demobilisation of employees

About You

At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
Strong skills and experience with procurements
High-level skills in planning, organisation, multi-tasking and time management
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Strong experience and skills with MS Office software
Strong written and spoken English language skills
Experience as a manager or director on a donor-funded project, especially those funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, or those with a humanitarian focus
