Job location: Guayaquil,Ecuador.

Report to: Regional program manager

JOB SUMMARY

Defining, coordinating and monitoring all nutritional activities in the MedGlobal clinic and in all related MedGlobal activities. Ensure good care regarding nutritional issues to the target population, addressing malnutrition and providing information to the population regarding nutritional habits. Manages staff involved in the nutritional activities including children, pregnant and lactating women, and elderly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations and other medical procedures.
  • Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
  • Ensure triage of patients in the waiting area and detect priority for acute/emergency cases.
  • Carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary.
  • Ensure all patients have their vital signs and all proper assessment before each consultation with a General Physician and/or Nutritionist.
  • Assist the general physician and the nutritionist in any medical activity.
  • Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control. Ensure high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment.
  • Perform cleaning and disinfection of biomedical equipment.
  • Ensure the cleaning and disinfection of care areas, especially at the doctor and nutritionist’s room.
  • Keep weekly inventory of medications and supplies and provide this information to the MedGlobal Country Representative and MedGlobal Project Director.
  • Work together with General Physician, Nutritionist, and MedGlobal Ecuador project coordinator and MedGlobal Clinic Coordinator to define needs of medications and supplies to prepare monthly orders.
  • Create a list of patients for conditions that require monitoring and to follow them up monthly. MedGlobal will provide this information. This will include and not be limited to: chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension), pregnant women, children with malnutrition, others.
  • Attend trainings that are scheduled by the organization
  • Perform procedures according to their training: Glucometer, cures, EKG, Taking vital signs, others.
  • Handle the instruments, needles and scalpel blades, using all the required safety measures.
  • Use all the elements of equipment as biosecurity measures.
  • Monitor the optimal conditions of the inventory and the adequate conservation of equipment and materials
  • Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of the nursing area without prior authorisation, etc.)
  • Comply with the proper fill out of the MedGlobal medical record both electronic and in paper.
  • Permanently inform the needs, problems and results obtained from the service.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Be available to support MedGlobal nursing work during itinerant activities at short-term medical interventions or any other location established by MedGlobal.
  • Comply with MedGlobal policies, rules and regulations
  • Contribute to MedGlobal social media presence.
  • Collect at least 3 success stories monthly from beneficiaries to be able to post them on MedGlobal social media platforms
  • Provide patients with information about referral systems available when needed.
  • Comply with other activities related to this role requested by MedGlobal.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • Comply with 40 hours of work per weekConduct mass mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) screening of children <5 years.
  • Assess nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women (PLW).
  • Assess nutritional status of elderly and any other vulnerable patient.
  • Provide nutritional services to patients visiting MedGlobal clinic and during any other itinerant MedGlobal activity.
  • Provide information on nutritional supplements trends in order to modify orders based on needs. Communicate this to the MedGlobal Country Representative and MedGlobal Project Director.
  • Implement a comprehensive maternal, infant, young child and elderly nutrition program.
  • Plan and conduct training on Growth Monitoring Promotion (GMP), IMAM and MIYCN to other mainstream health professionals.
  • Collect and report on nutrition data
  • Offer nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical conditions
  • Comply with the proper fill out of the MedGlobal medical record both electronic and in paper.
  • Contribute to MedGlobal social media presence.
  • Collect at least 3 success stories monthly from beneficiaries to be able to post them on MedGlobal social media platforms.
  • Provide patients with information about referral systems available when needed.
  • Comply with other activities related to this role requested by MedGlobal.
  • Attend training that is scheduled by the organization.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • Comply with 20 hours of work per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nutritionist diploma
  • Computer literacy
  • Domain of microsoft package, gmail, google drive and Electronic Medical Records
  • 3-5 years minimum work experience in ambulatory care, outpatient or inpatient care facilities
  • Work with NGO´s or migrant population will be considered but not necessary.
