The ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok seeks to fill the following position:

News and Media Analyst, based in Bangkok

We are looking for a spirited team player with a can-do attitude to join our dynamic team.

The News and Media Analyst supports decision-making by proactively identifying, monitoring and analysing information from a variety of public sources in line with the priorities of the ICRC Bangkok Regional Delegation, which covers four countries (Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Lao PDR). S/He contextualizes and links the selected information with the political, economic and security environment and performs systematic monitoring of the reputation of the ICRC and National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in local languages and local media.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under supervision of the Regional Communication Manager, identify and monitor a variety of public sources (with specific focus on local languages where possible) on issues related to the delegation’s communication and operational objectives, in order to alert on risks and opportunities. Translate and produce summaries into English for internal use.
  • Report efficiently and succinctly on the selected information by providing quantitative and qualitative analysis and a description of the trends and dynamics observed in public sources, including social media. Add value to the information by connecting the dots between events and linking the information to the wider political, social, and economic situation using facts and data.
  • Proactively explore, identify, and analyse emerging issues and trends.
  • In times of crisis, adapt monitoring and reporting to support the delegation’s priorities and challenges.
  • Monitor and measure the visibility of the ICRC and National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society. Alert on potential reputation issues. Identify influencers and contribute to the analysis of local media landscape in order to support public and operational communication.
  • Regularly assess the added value of the contributions/services with end-users.
  • Support analysis performed by relevant units in headquarters and/or regional hubs by qualifying and validating local data and sources.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

YOUR PROFILE:

  • University degree in communication, journalism, political science, international relations, public policy, or similar field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in related field.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Thai. Knowledge of additional languages encompassing the region (Khmer, Laos, Vietnamese) would be an asset.
  • Excellent digital literacy (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential); familiarity with digital communication tools; knowledge of data visualisation tools an asset.
  • Strong track record in secondary research and analysis reporting. Proven capacity to analyse complex and evolving situations. Proven capacity to analyse political situations and local media and social media landscape an asset.
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and can work independently. Attention to detail, analytical rigour, and impartiality.
  • Knowledge of ICRC working modality or other international NGOs an asset.
