Position Title: National Migration Health Research Officer

Type of Appointment: Fixed term, one year with possibility of extension

Salary: Php 1,577,572 per annum net of taxes

Context

Under the overall and direct supervision of the Global Migration Health Research and Epidemiology Coordinator, the successful candidate will closely coordinate with the MHD Research Unit at MAC to assist in undertaking applied health research tasks/functions related to Global Health Assessments Programme (HAP) and across MHD health interventions.

Core Functions / Responsibilities Public health and Scientific Research Methods Expertise

  • Assist in undertaking applied health research (both quantitative and qualitative); in reviewing research methodology, study design and evaluation of study protocols; and assisting in the writing of scientific papers (peer-review) and technical reports.
  • Utilizing the Health Assessment Research Primer: A Practical Guide for Analyzing IOM Health Assessment Data (first edition, 2020) to support the coordination and analysis of applied research harnessing IOM migration health assessment database (domains include: Vaccination related data, Psychosocial and mental health, etc. as stipulated in the primer).
  • Assist in developing capacities, training packages and skills development for MHD staffing undertaking applied research and scientific writing. Translate key information from IOM migration health studies for scientific research and dissemination purposes (via evidence briefs, peer-review articles)

Other requirements

  • Assist the Migration Health Research Unit to effectively liaise, coordinate and manage network with government, academia, and other relevant partners on advancing MHD’s migration health assessment and research data on migration health.
  • Actively contribute to providing input into the Unit’s overall strategy and plans.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology or a related public health field from an accredited academic institution Doctoral degree in (PhD, DrPH, DrSc) is preferred with two years of relevant professional experience in public health research; or
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Have ability to lead the writing of peer-reviewed scientific papers, undertake statistical analysis and perform critical appraisals of research project proposals, protocols, concept notes, research databases, in terms of the methodological rigor and appropriate qualitative and quantitative analytical process.
  • Record of having own articles published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals as a primary author in fields of applied epidemiology and biostatistics (Candidate must submit the abstracts of at least 3 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals as a primary author as proof);
  • Strong analytical research skills in public health with an excellent track record in undertaking both quantitative and qualitative studies at the level of the principal investigator (Candidate must submit proof of grant schemes where principal investigator status is indicated);
  • Experience in data processing and analysis for Qualitative research (e.g. thematic content analysis) and Quantitative research (e.g., regression analysis, time-trend, etc.)
  • Experience in data processing using statistical software (e.g. SPSS and data visualization software using data dashboards (e.g. PowerBI)
  • Experience in working on joint research projects with external partners, content reviewing and editing;
  • Experience in the publication of manuscripts in known peer-reviewed journals (Candidate must submit the abstracts of at least 3 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals as a primary author as proof); and
  • Experience in an international public health setting an advantage.
