We are seeking a motivated and creative Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to join our dynamic Education and Outreach team, and bring their expertise into developing and implementing comprehensive program evaluation frameworks.

CSIRO Education and Outreach unit delivers quality science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) programs and resources for teachers, students, and the wider community. In this position, you will be working across two key programs within the unit:

  • a new five-year STEM engagement program aimed at encouraging participation in STEM, particularly among under-represented groups;
  • the ‘Virtual Work Experience’ program aimed at offering students access to work experience opportunities that face geographic or other barriers.

You will track & monitor the performance of the programs, develop evaluation plans to assess the performance and liaise with a range of stakeholders to provide feedback, training and create pathways to continuously improve. This role will include some local and interstate travel.

Your duties will include:

  • Working closely with the Manager to lead the development and implementation of monitoring & evaluation frameworks for the new STEM engagement and Virtual Work Experience programs.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities, including feeding back learnings and providing ongoing data and insights to the program team.
  • Contributing to the reporting of KPIs and outcomes to the funders.
  • Participating in and occasionally leading regular team meetings.
  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across CSIRO, to reach objectives and, where relevant, collaborate with external bodies and the general public.

Location: Negotiable – any capital city considered

Salary: AU$87K to AU$98K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified Term until December 2026 – Part time (0.6 FTE)

To be considered you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in evaluation, STEM, education, or a relevant social science.
  • A current Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation experience encompassing:
    • effective monitoring and evaluation research skills
    • demonstrated experience in data analysis
    • administrative and time management skills
    • written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • High level interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain strong & productive relationships and networks with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to problem solve using creativity, reasoning, and past experience.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must be currently residing in Australia as an:

  • Australian/New Zealand Citizen;
  • Australian Permanent Resident; or
  • Australian Temporary Resident, with an existing valid visa and unrestricted work rights for the duration of the term (until December 2026) and no requirement for visa sponsorship from CSIRO.

Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.

The successful candidate must hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working with children check prior to confirmation of appointment.

The successful candidate will require a current Australian Driver’s Licence and a willingness to travel locally and interstate.
