The Opportunity – Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordinator.

Post location: Gaza Field Office – Rafah and subject to change based on SC priorities and response in Gaza.

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 12 months.

ROLE PURPOSE:

As the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordinator, your role is pivotal in ensuring the provision of comprehensive and effective psychosocial support services to individuals and communities affected by crisis or adversity. You’ll lead efforts to promote mental well-being, resilience, and recovery, enhancing the overall quality of life for vulnerable populations.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Deputy Response Team Leader – Programmes.

Staff reporting to this post: TBC.

Budget Responsibilities: None.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Program Development and Management:

• Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of mental health and psychosocial support programs in alignment with international standards, best practices, and donor requirements.
• Develop strategic plans, workplans, and budgets for MHPSS activities, ensuring they are evidence-based, contextually relevant, and responsive to the needs of affected populations.

Capacity Building:

• Provide technical guidance and capacity building support to MHPSS staff, volunteers, and partner organizations, including training on assessment, counseling, and psychosocial interventions.
• Facilitate workshops, seminars, and learning sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of frontline workers and community members in providing psychosocial support.

Coordination and Collaboration:

• Establish and maintain effective coordination mechanisms with relevant government agencies, NGOs, UN agencies, and other stakeholders involved in mental health and psychosocial support activities.
• Participate in MHPSS coordination forums, working groups, and clusters to share information, coordinate responses, and advocate for the integration of mental health and psychosocial support into broader humanitarian and development initiatives.

Assessment and Monitoring:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of mental health and psychosocial needs and resources within affected communities, using participatory and culturally sensitive approaches.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of MHPSS programs, collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness, relevance, and impact of interventions and identify areas for improvement.

Community Engagement and Awareness:

• Engage with communities to raise awareness about mental health, psychosocial well-being, and available support services, addressing stigma, myths, and misconceptions related to mental illness and psychosocial distress.
• Facilitate community-led initiatives and activities to promote resilience, social cohesion, and peer support networks among individuals and groups affected by adversity.

Safeguarding and Ethics:

• Uphold ethical standards and safeguarding principles in all aspects of MHPSS programming, ensuring the protection and dignity of beneficiaries, particularly vulnerable populations such as children, women, and persons with disabilities.
• Establish mechanisms for reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns, including allegations of abuse, exploitation, or harassment, in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of MHPSS activities, including case files, session notes, and program reports, in compliance with data protection and confidentiality standards.
• Prepare regular progress reports, success stories, and case studies highlighting the impact of MHPSS interventions on individual and community well-being for internal and external dissemination.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS

• BSc Psychology, or other relevant qualification.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

• Master’s in clinical psychology;
• Minimum 4 years of experience in clinical supervision and debriefing.
• Have a valid and active practice license.
• Experience in psychological first aid and other support activities
• Experience working in child protection programs.
• Experience in developing training modules on and facilitating training.
• Experience in building the capacity of teams/individuals.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and discretion with confidential information.
• Ability to work independently and proactively.
• Experience in project management, developing reports for donors and contribution to the development of proposals.
• Written and verbal communication and reporting skills in English and Arabic

Desirable

• Experience or knowledge of working in the region.
• Experience of working with NGO
• Experience in emergency response
