Project Overview

The PALM scheme is administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) in partnership with the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF). DFAT and DEWR retain responsibility for key program aspects requiring government oversight, including program integrity and assurance, while working closely with responsible government agencies including the Department of Home Affairs, Australian Border Force, Attorney General’s Department and the Fair Work Ombudsman.

The PLF works with DFAT and DEWR to support the administration of the PALM scheme and facilitate opportunities for Australian employers to connect with workers from the Pacific and Timor-Leste. The PLF is managed by Palladium and has been established as a trusted intermediary in supporting Australia-Pacific circular labour mobility.

Role Overview:

The role of the Media and Content Coordinator will be to support the PLF regional media, stakeholder engagement and communications activities to manage the reputation of the PALM scheme and provide important information to stakeholders in Australia, the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify relevant new stories and manage content gathering, develop into media releases, case studies and other information resources for wider stakeholders.
  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders including DFAT, employers, workers and community groups to develop case studies, social media content and other materials.
  • Provide evidence-based content to DFAT to assist in the preparation of ministerial products.
  • Work closely with PLF Communications team to support community events, embed gender equality, disability and social inclusion considerations.
  • Maintain an understanding of regional contexts and make appropriate recommendations to build local and wider community awareness of the program.
  • Draft locally relevant, informative media and engagement materials across a range of print, broadcast and digital formats, including media releases, trade and industry content.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across a range of PALM scheme stakeholders and contextualize information materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in communication and information related industries, including journalism, communications, media relations or similar.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • An understanding of the Australian media environment, particularly in regional Australia.
  • Experience with photography and/or videography is desirable.
  • Experience working with stakeholders in regional Australia.
  • Experience in using digital media and producing content to build an online audience.

The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract to 30 June 2023. You must have valid Australian work rights to be considered for this position – visa sponsorship is not available.

The preference is that the position is based in Brisbane but other locations could be considered for the right candidate. Candidates who are willing to relocate for the position must do so at their own expense.
